Xbox Games Showcase: All the Major Reveals Ranked, From Worst to the Best
Time to learn Microsoft's plans for this year.
Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase was the most important time for players to learn about its plans for the rest of the year. On June 9, the annual event revealed multiple important pieces of information about the upcoming games and the next Xbox consoles. Though we can’t say all the announcements Microsoft made are great, they are not entirely disappointing.
If you have missed the entire event or a part of it but want to know the interesting parts of the Showcase, this is a recap, so check out the best and worst announcements Microsoft has made this year. We have listed the games from worst to best.
The Best and Worst Games Revealed at Xbox Games Showcase 2024
Among the games shown at the Showcase this year, lots of names were expected, which have been rumored to be on the event for a long time. However, surprises were also part of the event where Microsoft revealed games that have no news of coming this year. Anyway, like every year, the trailer and information of some games couldn’t satisfy the expectations of fans, and below we have a list of the games that have met their expectations and those that didn’t.
10. Avowed
Avowed is a highly anticipated game for which players have been waiting for a long time. Even rumors related to Avowed’s appearance in the Showcase have been circulating for a while, and finally, the game’s trailer was released at the event. Still, this is the biggest disappointing game in the Showcase because the trailer was released without a launch date.
Even though the game will come sometime this year, the date and time are still not clear to players. Also, it was shown towards the end of the event, revealing Microsoft’s ignorance of the game.
9. Perfect Dark Reboot
This is another game that has disappointed players to a great extent. Perfect Dark was a first-person stealth action game on Nintendo 64, but its reboot version made its entry at the Xbox Showcase Event with an impressive trailer. The trailer even showed the redesigned version of Joanna Dark, the protagonist of the game. Everything was right up to this point, but again, this game didn’t receive a release date.

Though Xbox confirmed that this game will come to Game Pass, it still didn’t assign the game an official launch date.
8. Life is Strange: Double Exposure
The narrative adventure series by Square Enix got a new trailer for its upcoming Life is Strange: Double Exposure game. The trailer shows the appearance of the protagonist, Max Caulfield, as she tries to solve the mysteries with her powers. The protagonist can see events on parallel timelines. The trailer for the game was impressive and even has a release date, which is set for October 29, 2024.
The problem with this game is the voiceover. Though it reveals that the protagonist is Max Caulfield, neither her appearance nor her voice matches the previous entries in the series. This has utterly disappointed the gamers.
7. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Fans had been expecting this game at the Showcase this year, and Microsoft fulfilled their hopes. The trailer for the game is nice, with lots of ancient ruins and secrets waiting to be uncovered during the gameplay. Though the gameplay seems exciting, the problem is with the cutscenes.
From the segment shown at the event, players have assumed this game is going to have lots of cutscenes where they have no role to play. Actions are mostly pre-set in the game, with zero contribution to the gameplay. This naturally disappoints them as gamers. Along with that, this is another game without a release date.
6. Fable
Fable is one of the impressive games shown at the Showcase. The trailer for the game has been released, which shows a magical world where players will encounter dangerous monsters and retired heroes during their journey. Though the gameplay seems exciting, Microsoft didn’t allot the game an official release date.
What is more unfortunate is that Fable is not coming this year. It will come sometime in 2025. So, it’s probably a year-long wait to experience the game.
5. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is another impressive game revealed at the event, with a grand trailer to remember. The series is already famous, and another potential masterpiece is going to be added to the list. The trailer for the game focuses on stealth takedowns and not on shooting. So, players can eliminate enemies stealthily when the option to shoot them down is blocked.
Though the game provided players with a sign that it was probably going to be released in 2024, the event didn’t specify any official release date for the game.
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Undoubtedly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been the most anticipated game that players have been expecting to see at the Showcase. While the trailer was solid with a single-player campaign and 16 multiplayer maps, the file size of the game at launch disappointed players to a great extent.
The release date is also allotted to the game. As the trailer revealed, the game is going to release on October 25. However, it will be 309 GB on Xbox at launch, which is huge.
3. Doom: The Dark Ages
The next game on the list is Doom: The Dark Ages. This game was a big reveal, but the revelation had been rumored for a long time. The gameplay trailer was definitely one of the best, with the protagonist having a shotgun, speed, and power, like in the previous games of the series. However, this time he received a shield as new defense equipment.
Even after all these impressive things, the game won’t be released in 2024. Though the release date is not confirmed, the game is probably going to be released in 2025.
2. Gears of War: E-Day
The second-best announcement of the Showcase is probably the release of Gears of War: E-Day. It is the next mainline game in the Gears of War universe and a prequel to the series, when Locust Horde attacked the Sera for the first time. Set 14 years before the first game, this title is going to highlight the survival journey of humanity against the emergence of the Locust Horde.
1. Digital Xbox Consoles
Apart from all the games, this is the best announcement Microsoft made during the event. Along with the new colored consoles for Xbox Series X and S, the team is bringing new all-digital versions of Xbox Series X and S. These consoles will cost $450 and will have 1 TB of storage. Most interestingly, these consoles will be released this year, though the exact date or month haven’t yet been revealed.
Other Announcements at Xbox Showcase
These were either the best or the worst announcements made at the event, but there are a few more that need to be mentioned, even if they don’t fall in either category.
- State of Decay 3 got a cinematic trailer after a long pause.
- A new Starfield update was released after the event to add new locations, gear, bounty, and lots of content to the game.
- The new expansion for Starfield, named Shattered Space, was shown.
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard showed the first trailer, which was pretty good.
- World of Warcraft: The War Within, Age of Mythology: Retold, and Sea of Thieves Season 13 got their release dates this year.
- Microsoft announced Wuchang: Falling Feather.
- Fallout 76: Skyline Valley is going to launch the Shenandoah region to multiplayer on June 12, 2024.
- Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn will be released on July 18.
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 got trailers.
