  • Even though Atsu is getting some criticism, the creative directors are hopeful about the game and revealed the primary inspiration behind its development.

In 2025, two renowned franchises will take players on adventurous journeys through ancient Japan. Initially, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was set to start its run in 2024, but after an unexpected delay, this game will also be released in 2025. Ghost of Yotei may or may not be released before this, as the release date is not yet stated.

Whether it is Assassin’s Creed Shadows or Ghost of Yotei, both have created massive excitement among fans, and it is pretty captivating that the stories of these two games are set only a few years away from each other. Sony can even give a hard punch to Ubisoft in one feature.

Ghost of Yotei Could Beat Assassin’s Creed Shadows in This One In-Game Element

Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ release date may clash with another game set during the same timeline.

While Ubisoft released the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows long ago, the latest PlayStation State of Play uncovered the trailer for Ghost of Yotei to confirm that Ghost of Tsushima is about to get a sequel soon. Both trailers are impressive and set in ancient Japan.

Anyway, this is not everything common between these games. An X post recently highlighted another similarity that may attract the attention of gamers. According to Mightykeef, Ghost of Yotei is set around the time when Yasuke was in Japan.

Yasuke is one of the most renowned names in Japanese history for being the first African man to be a samurai. History says he entered Japan around 1579 in the Edo period and served the Feudal Lord Oda Nobunaga in 1581-82 before he was exiled that year. That’s the end of his story.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in the Edo period, in 1579, and importantly, Yasuke is one of the two playable protagonists of the game. Therefore, it’s not yet confirmed, but the story will probably cover up to 1582 until the exile happened.

On the other hand, Ghost of Yotei is reportedly set 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. Therefore, the timeline will be around 1603, which is close to the time when Yasuke was in Japan.

This is interesting, and if Sony releases the game before February 14, 2025, players may experience Yasuke’s story before they experience him as the protagonist of the upcoming Ubisoft game.

Creative Directors of Ghost of Tsushima Revealed Their Inspiration for Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei is hugely inspired by the mesmerizing beauty of Mount Yotei in Japan.

It is yet unknown when Ghost of Yotei will come, but since the trailer was launched, a group of community players have been angry about replacing Jin Sakai with a female protagonist.

Ignoring this tricky reception, the two creative directors of the game, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, appeared for an interview with The New York Times.

The discussion was widespread, but at one point, Connell revealed that the inspiration was taken from Mount Yotei and its image that was “reflected across Lake Toya.” The creative director revealed that he sat there for two hours, and the scene was so stunning that the game’s setting has “an imposing image of Mount Yotei.”

Additionally, they expressed that in the upcoming game, they have tried avoiding repetitive open-world landscapes. The team has tried balancing the world to give unique experiences to gamers.

Now that gamers will get two games set in feudal Japan around the same time, it will be exciting to see which offers a more thrilling adventure.
