  • Players were largely unmoved by the studio's pleas for time, remaining pessimistic about the game's prospects.

Helldivers 2 continues its struggle to stay relevant in the crowded space of third-person shooters despite Arrowhead Games’ best efforts to bring new content to the game in order to keep its loyal yet disgruntled fan base coming back to Super Earth in the game’s fight to spread Democracy across the galaxy.

However, that does not mean that the studio is going down without a fight. Despite recent setbacks, Arrowhead remains committed to addressing the many criticisms that Helldivers 2 is currently facing with the recent announcement of a 60-day plan in which the game is slated to receive several updates and additions in order to bring it back to its past dominance of the genre which it enjoyed upon its release.

Helldivers 2 has been in a slump that Arrowhead seems determined to address.

It has not been easy for Arrowhead to sustain interest in Helldivers 2 despite the release of its Escalation of Freedom update aimed at addressing complaints of stagnancy in its gameplay loop. With players continuing to point out flaws in the game almost constantly along with the addition of several exciting titles for fans of shooters to move on to, Arrowhead’s latest effort could be its salvation although its players remain cautious of getting their hopes up.

A recent announcement from Arrowhead on the Helldivers 2 Discord server has promised players an update on how the new 60-day plan is progressing with the release of a blog that details current fixes to the game that are in development along with timelines for their release and updates on their progress.

Can Arrowhead Turn Things Around?

Arrowhead is sure to try bringing back the excitement that its flagship title once enjoyed with its new revival plan.

Arrowhead’s assurances about Helldivers 2 come at a tricky time for its flagship title, with player interest in its unique premise waning alongside the addition of an excellent multiplayer option on Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 proving to be a potential competitor.

The studio’s announcement has many players disappointed with the lack of news from Arrowhead, as showcased by responses to the Reddit post below.

Responses to the announcement have been understandably disgruntled with some players making humorous references from popular films to have a little fun at Arrowhead’s expense.

While the studio certainly has a reputation for taking a few jokes in its stride, Arrowhead might want to pay close attention to what its players are expecting from it and attempt to get in front of their disappointment – a sentiment that another player is hoping the studio shares with the community.

Another player’s response, however, could prove that not all is lost for Arrowhead and Helldivers 2 despite how bad things may seem at the moment considering their continued interest in the game and a willingness to return to it if Arrowhead is able to make meaningful changes.

Fans of Helldivers 2 will have to wait and see if Arrowhead is able to bring back the magic that it once brought to the game with ease. The fight for Democracy is in the studio’s hands at this point, and it will have to work hard to stop its players from deserting Super Earth’s armies altogether.
