Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Confirmed to Have More Factions Joining the Fight, but Who?
An improved Titus, a new enemy faction, and a fresh narrative style.
Fans of the original Warhammer 40K: Space Marine have been eager to learn more about its upcoming sequel. And it looks like they finally have some answers.
The upcoming sequel is set to continue the story of Captain Demetrian Titus, whose fate was left hanging in the balance after the vents in the original game back in 2011. While he is back to doing what he does best, it seems he has had a tough time of things with the Inquisition even as new threats emerge to threaten the Indomitus Crusade.
The Space Marines Get a New Directive
With Titus undergoing the Rubicon Primaris, leaving him faster and stronger than ever before, it is up to him and his new squad mates, Brother-Sergeant Gadriel and Brother Chairon, to face down new threats to the Imperium.
While these new threats have been shrouded in mystery ever since the game’s announcement back in 2021, new details from Saber Interactive’s Creative Director have given us a peek into what the game has in store for Titus and his crew.
A New Threat Emerges in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
In an interview, Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick talks about new enemy factions that have emerged to threaten the Imperium’s tenacious hold on their lands. With a gameplay loop that lets you take on its campaign missions solo with AI teammates or with a couple of your friends in cooperative multiplayer, this sequel brings a lot of new tricks – and enemies – to the table.

With a narrative that presents itself through multiple points of view, players can experience the story’s events from Titus’ viewpoint as well as the eyes of his squad mates – a unique take on traditional storytelling methods that we see in modern gaming.
However, that’s not the only exciting news that Hollis-Leick had to share. A brand new enemy faction called the Tyranids is set to make an appearance. While details about their motivations remain scant, these alien insectoids seem hell-bent on ending organic life as we know it.
Bearing a close resemblance to Helldivers 2’s Terminids, this is certainly going to be a faction to watch out for. They are to be joined by The Thousand Sons, agents of Chaos who return from previous titles with new tricks up their sleeves.
It’s a brilliant mix of new and old that is sure to work well with the new ranged and melee combat systems that Space Marine 2 is set to feature. It’s also a brilliant way to test the limits of Titus’ new-found strength and speed even as he reels from the consequences of his past actions.
