Ubisoft’s tough time hasn’t yet come to an end. For the last few years, the gaming studio has released multiple games that didn’t earn popularity according to expectations. However, the 2024 releases broke all the records with three back-to-back flop games, including XDefiant. While the future of the company is still uncertain, the latest XDefiant news increased the uncertainty a bit.

XDefiant is one of the free-to-play shooter games released earlier this year, but unfortunately, after several playtests and beta runs, the final release failed pathetically. While the initial release was a success, the scenario drastically changed within a few weeks, which very naturally made players worried about the game’s future.

Rumors Suggest XDefiant’s Future Is in Danger

XDefiant‘s journey started pretty well, but later, it got interrupted by numerous flaws that players figured out.

After XDefiant was released, the game’s performance was great during the initial five weeks, but after that, players started pointing out the issues that Ubisoft must correct. This turned the tables drastically, and the game witnessed a tragic downfall in player count.

Though the Executive Producer of the game, Mark Rubin, refused to accept this fact, recent rumors suggested that in this tough time, Ubisoft has decided not to progress forward with the game after Season 4 if it fails to increase the player count.

On October 14, a renowned leaker and insider, Shaun Weber, took this point to X (formerly Twitter) and stated that multiple sources revealed that “the game will end its Support after season 4 if they cant get enough players.”

As Ubisoft previously revealed, the first year of the game will consist of four seasons, and the second season is already running, which has brought a new faction known as the Highwaymen. Though it didn’t work for the game, the shutdown rumor was also completely denied by Mark Rubin.

Mark Rubin Talked About XDefiant’s Future Plans, Ruling Out Any Possibility of Shutting Down

XDefiant players shouldn’t worry about the game’s shutting down rumors, as Mark Rubin expressed something completely different.

As soon as the rumor about XDefiant approaching its end circulated, players got scared about losing the game. However, within a day, players received clarification from the game’s Executive Producer, who clearly stated that the company had no such plans for the game.

Mark Rubin took it to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed that XDefiant isn’t going to get shut down after Season 4. His statement reveals that there’s no such criterion set for the game to keep running; instead, the team has been working hard to resolve technical issues and improve the situation.

About the future plans of XDefiant, he expressed that the team will add “more content for Seasons 3 & 4.” That’s only a part of his statement. There’s more that he talked about, especially about the low player counts and the strategy to increase them. According to him,

We have done very little marketing so yes our numbers are down but that is just to give the team the time to get the game in a better place before we do bigger spends on marketing to bring new players to the game and to bring back players that have left.”

So, at this point, XDefiant players can rest assured, as the game is not going to end its journey anytime soon. It will continue its run in the future, regardless of its player count.
