“This isn’t needed, don’t fix what isn’t broken”: Cyberpunk 2077 Getting Another Netflix Adaptation After Edgerunners
After the massive success of 2022's Edgerunners, fans are about to get another Netflix animated project based on Cyberpunk 2077.
- Among some of the most successful TV adaptations of gaming series, Cyberpunk's 2022 adaptation was quite well-received.
- After this success, Netflix once again teased a new animated project based on Cyberpunk 2077.
- Netflix is working on multiple other projects based on renowned gaming series, including Tomb Raider and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.
TV and film adaptations of popular gaming series have been quite trending in recent years. A lot of renowned games received TV series or movies based on them, but not all these adaptations satisfy fans’ expectations. Silent Hill and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time are two of the glaring examples of adaptations of popular games that pathetically failed.
The Cyberpunk series started its TV adaptation journey in 2022. Fortunately, the adaptation mostly satisfied Cyberpunk audiences. Naturally, Netflix is not ready to leave it so soon without giving this series another try. Therefore, after two years of Edgerunners, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting another Netflix show.
Netflix Is Ready With All Its Upcoming Shows Including the Cyberpunk 2077 Adaptation
Last week, Netflix arranged the Geeked Week event from September 16 to 19. This event teased a lot of upcoming projects, and among them was the second Cyberpunk adaptation. It has collaborated with CD Projekt Red to take the audience back to Night City to experience a new journey in the upcoming animated series.
Well, the teaser it released showed nothing but the name of Cyberpunk, a glitchy visual, and the “Return to Night City” caption. Therefore, at this point, it is hard to say whether it will be a movie or a TV series, when it will come, and what storyline it will feature. There’s nothing stated in the 20-second teaser.
If you remember, Edgerunners was set a year before Cyberpunk 2077. It was set in Night City in 2076. This 10-episode series received huge praise from fans. Therefore, the upcoming one may be the sequel to Edgerunners, or it can be something completely different.
Because the teaser says it is “coming soon,” fans hopefully don’t have to wait long to get further updates on it. While speculations about a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel have been in the air for a long time, players will probably get the animated project first.
Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Reacted Unexpectedly to This Announcement
The 20-second teaser that Netflix revealed about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 project has generated loads of opinions from fans, and they are pretty strange compared to simple excitement.
Of course, most people are overjoyed hearing this news, especially after watching Edgerunners.
Though Edgerunners was a great show with all 10 successful episodes, a few people requested not to make something as heartbreaking.
Among all these, one fan took it in a separate direction and expressed that they don’t need this Cyberpunk 2077 project, as Edgerunners was already amazing.
These are indeed some strange opinions from fans. However, Cyberpunk 2077 is not the only gaming series adaptation coming on Netflix.
Netflix is about to bring an animated show based on one of Ubisoft’s best gaming series, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. The teaser of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch was revealed during the event.
Along with that, the upcoming Tomb Raider animated series also received a release date: October 10, 2025. Even the trailer for the Devil May Cry anime was also revealed.
