CD Projekt Red’s announcement about a new Witcher game in 2022 set the gaming world ablaze with excitement about a new direction for the popular franchise. Following the success of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, an open-world RPG that captured the hearts of many players, the studio’s decision to create another Witcher game was met with obvious glee.

However, with Geralt of Rivia’s adventures coming to an end in the previous game, fans of the franchise were puzzled about who might take center stage in a new game, hoping that the famed Witcher would somehow make his way back to his monster-hunting ways.

The Witcher 4 Gets A Slightly Disappointing Update

Geralt and Ciri’s bond formed a major part of The Wild Hunt’s narrative success.

One of Geralt’s many strengths was his gravelly voice which allowed the character to inject his wry, cynical personality into the many conversations he had around the Continent, often masking his sarcasm while being intimidating to those who had reasons to worry about his strength and speed.

His enhanced senses and excellent narrative allowed The Wild Hunt to be a massive success for the Polish studio and even inspired Henry Cavill’s take on the character in Netflix’s live adaptation of the franchise.

However, in what could be seen as a rather disappointing announcement, the voice actor for Geralt, American artist Doug Cockle, recently announced that Geralt may not have a major part to play in the upcoming title, codenamed Polaris by CD Projekt Red even as it works on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 in its new approach to producing new games.

Should Geralt Be A Part of The Witcher 4?

The Witcher fans cannot seem to say goodbye to Geralt’s charismatic style of monster-hunting.

Reactions to the below post in which Cockle’s announcement can be viewed in its entirety suggest that not all Witcher fans are happy that Geralt may not return as a main character in the new game, despite Blood and Wine, a DLC expansion for The Wild Hunt giving the character a much-needed conclusion to his harrowing experiences as a Witcher.

Fans of Geralt are understandably upset at the revelation even though the character’s retirement from future games has been expected ever since the new title was announced.

One particular response showcases just how iconic Geralt was during his time as the Witcher, and how many players would not be able to stomach another character trying to live up to the legacy he leaves behind.

Other fans are hoping to see more of Ciri, Geraltś adoptive daughter and a logical successor to his legacy, in the new game – a decision that could very well benefit CD Projekt Red considering Ciri’s prominence in the game’s source material and her excellent character arc in The Wild Hunt.

However, other fans of the franchise hope that the game’s RPG trappings are taken to the next level, allowing for a custom Witcher who is guided along their path by Geralt himself – ensuring that the franchise goes in a new direction while staying true to its roots.

While The Witcher 4 Is still a long time away, fans would hope that Geralt does make an appearance in the game even if he does not take the lead role this time around.
