The Witcher 4 Fans Are Predictably Rioting Over Reported Change in Direction
It seems to be time to welcome a new Witcher.
The Witcher 4, code-named Polaris, is one of the most anticipated games without a release date. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher is one of its most successful series, with three main installments and the fourth one under development. However, a recent update about a major change created a mess.
Having loyal fans is a blessing for sure, but not always do they behave accordingly to every decision and announcement. Sometimes, some of their behavior even surprises other fans. The Witcher and Geralt of Rivia sound synonymous, but the upcoming installment is about to make a change that fans are not ready to accept.
The Witcher 4 Is Taking the Story in a Different Direction by Switching the Renowned Witcher
Though nothing is yet confirmed, Ciri, the princess of Cintra, seems to be the leading character in The Witcher 4. Ciri was physically introduced in The Witcher 3, but she was mentioned throughout the previous installments. Now, it seems to be her turn to be the next Witcher.

This speculation has been in the air for a long time since CD Projekt Red announced that Geralt’s saga had come to an end. Of course, this was a hint at a new protagonist appearing, and the most potent contender to come to The Witcher 4 is Ciri.
Fans have been expecting that they will get Geralt back in the next installment, but that hope was shattered when the voice artist of Geralt, Doug Cockle, confirmed that he will be a part of the game, but the focus won’t be on him. However, he hasn’t shared a specific name as the protagonist.
Since this interview aired, a lot of fans have started protesting against getting a new protagonist. Several of them mentioned that they wouldn’t buy the game for Ciri.
Fans even mentioned that the series can’t be called The Witcher without Geralt.
However, this is not all. Though some fans are offended by the switch of leading characters, a lot more fans are eagerly waiting to welcome Ciri.
The Witcher Fans Find the Resentment Against Ciri a Logicless Activity
Indeed, Geralt of Rivia is integrally related to The Witcher series, and players love to experience the adventure of playing as him, but sometimes changes are required. The ending of The Witcher 3 gave the hint that Geralt wouldn’t be the main character in the next installment, and CD Projekt Red is probably continuing the story from there with Ciri.

Even after multiple protests against her being the main character, some fans call the gameplay with Ciri to be the “best.”
Several players mentioned that’s how the flow of the story should be, and they are excited to have Ciri as the next Witcher.
A few players mentioned that others are protesting because of “female protagonist fatigue.”
No matter what the reason, a group of players is not happy with this change.
Well, the developer hasn’t revealed anything about this change. So, confirmation is yet to come about this swap of protagonists.
While waiting for further updates, check out how CD Projekt Red gave Insomniac Games a hard time.
