Tomb Raider games are some of the best action-adventure titles that have been running for years. Started in 1996, this series has multiple successful installments, taking players on thrilling adventures with Lara Croft. Therefore, after Tomb Raider I–III Remastered was released on February 14, 2024, players eagerly awaited the next major installment.
The upcoming Tomb Raider installment was announced in 2022, but there’s no further update on the development process. The current IP of the game is owned by Embracer Group, which has gone through some tough times. However, assuring players, a recent update confirms that the Tomb Raider development process is unaffected.
Amazon Games CEO Confirms Tomb Raider Development Despite Hardship
The last major entry in the Tomb Raider series was Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. After that, in these six years, Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix didn’t really bring any major entries to the series, though Lara Croft unexpectedly made her way to a renowned battle royale this year.
While the lack of updates and the troubles of Embracer Group forced fans to think that the game has probably paused development, recently, Amazon Games CEO Christoph Hartmann assured players that the Tomb Raider game is still under development.
Hartmann sat for an interview with IGN, and he talked about a range of topics during the session. Therefore, obviously, this one appeared at some point, and the CEO confirmed that the game hasn’t been bothered by the changes Embracer Group went through, as developer Crystal Dynamics is totally safe from all that turmoil.
However, about the progress of the game, he answered that there’s high expectation pressure on the developer. The more time passes, the more players have been expecting from the game. Therefore, the process is not at all easy. Hartmann mentioned,
“I mean, doing a new Tomb Raider, the bar is so high. The longer you go, the expectation goes higher, so it’s a huge, huge task, but things are progressing.”
Hartmann talked about some major issues, but he still didn’t share many updates to keep the suspense alive.
Amazon Games CEO Didn’t Open up About the Storyline of the Upcoming Tomb Raider Game
Whenever it is about a renowned series, players often get curious about what they are going to get, and Tomb Raider players are no exception. During the interview, Christoph Hartmann talked about a lot of issues, but none of them really gave any hint at what’s going to be in the next installment. Though he confirmed that there are really great ideas to consider, nothing particular was revealed.
Instead, to assure Tomb Raider players, the CEO revealed,
“Obviously, we’re not going to share any with you even if we would love to, but things are going well, things are moving forward.”
Therefore, at this point, there’s no confirmation about the game’s storyline or even the timeline. How long players need to wait for the game isn’t sure, and whatever is currently circulating on the internet is purely speculation.
It seems like the waiting time is not going to end soon. Therefore, Tomb Raider fans need to keep their patience and wait for Crystal Dynamics to bring another blockbuster to them.
