Starfield Mission Gets Everything Right, and We Hope Shattered Space Copies a Lot of the Quality and Themes

Although the space RPG did not garner the biggest following at launch, with issues related to its technical side of things and the world feeling quite dull standing out as the most glaring, there were still plenty of aspects that made it a worthy experience.

While the concept of the multiverse has been overdone at this point all across pop culture, ranging from films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to iconic television series like Lost, the way Bethesda implemented it in Starfield gave it a significant edge over a lot of its counterparts in other media.
Spoilers may follow from this point onwards for the Entangled mission in the Todd Howard-directed space adventure, but there is a very well-crafted sequence in the game that utilizes alternate universes in quite a compelling way, tasking the player to make one of three choices at the end to affect the eventual outcome.
Long story short, the player’s character gets a distress signal from the Nishina Research Station, only to find out that the facility did not actually send out the message, at least in the universe that the player finds themselves in.
Enter Rafael Aguerro, a key component of the Entangled mission whose life is directly affected by whatever choice the player opts for, but before that important decision even gets brought up, Starfield lets the player switch between two universes to solve the puzzle.
As the space RPG nears its first anniversary and the Shattered Space DLC is just around the corner, the Bethesda fanbase is fondly looking back at a sequence that proved to be one of the developer’s most creative moments in recent times.
From figuring out the distorted mystery behind the distress signal to deciding whether to save Rafael’s life or the space station instead, the mission reminded fans of what Bethesda and Todd Howard were truly capable of once they put their collective expertise together.

Of course, it would not be an action RPG without hordes of enemies to take on while trying to complete important universe-altering objectives, which is where the Cataxi come in to make things significantly harder for the player.
While switching between the two universes, there are plenty of Cataxi who try and stop the player’s progress, with many rooms being infested by them and needing to be cleared out before the next step can be carried out. The element of surprise combined with all the other intricacies made Entangled a turning point for Bethesda Game Studios fans, as the mission made them realize that they are in for a much more mature, darker ride than they may have initially thought.
As Todd Howard and his team gear up to launch the highly anticipated Shattered Space expansion, players keep finding new ways to appreciate the base game that may have received undue hate at launch nearly one year ago.
Starfield always had the potential to be something greater than what the fanbase initially got, and if the upcoming DLC continues similar quality and themes like the Entangled mission, it will likely become an instant hit among sci-fi enthusiasts.
