Star Wars fans are counting down the days to the release of Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world adventure that brings a brand new protagonist and familiar RPG mechanics to current-gen consoles and PC.

Following the adventures of Kay Vess in her quest to free herself from the machinations of the galaxy’s various crime syndicates, the game promises freedom of exploration on a level never seen in a Star Wars game before. A recent announcement from Ubisoft has made that deal even sweeter, with a lot of new content coming the game’s way after its release.

Star Wars Outlaws Brings New and Old Faces to Its Narrative

Star Wars Outlaws is all set to take its players to corners of the galaxy they have never seen in a video game before.

While details on the game’s narrative are scarce, players already know that the game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, both excellent narratives in their own right. This has allowed for a lot of speculation as to whether iconic characters from these films will be making an appearance in the game.

While Jabba the Hutt is already confirmed to appear in the main story, that’s no surprise considering his immense presence (both literally and figuratively) in the Empire’s underground networks. However, Ubisoft’s latest roadmap for post-launch content in Star Wars Outlaws has brought news of another iconic character from the films – and a potential mini game that he might really like playing against Kay.

Is It Really an Open-World Title Without Addictive Mini Games?

Kay could use the skills of a legendary pilot and Ubisoft might have just the person she needs.

Mini games that protagonists get to play out in an open world have become something of a trend in modern gaming. Considering the success of Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, many popular franchises have chosen to include some form of a game within their games for players to engage with.

With Star Wars Outlaws set to bring a lot of familiar mechanics from the best RPGs into its gameplay loop, Ubisoft’s roadmap might point to a popular character from Star Wars bringing a bit of high-stakes gambling for great rewards to Kay’s adventure.

That’s none other than Lando Calrissian, the administrator of Cloud City who shares a complicated relationship with Han Solo, another prominent name on the Empire’s Most Wanted list. His love for Sabacc could feature in his narrative in Outlaws, while his missions are sure to feature some exciting heists and a lot of twists and turns.

Lando’s appearance in Star Wars Outlaws is a great opportunity for the game to give its players the chance to meet iconic characters from the franchise, considering his close ties to the Rebel Alliance and his distaste for how the Empire chooses to do business.

He could very well bring Kay in touch with the Rebels, helping her learn more about herself and the kind of person she wants to be even as she maintains a tenuous relationship with various factions of the galaxy’s underground.

It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan in gaming, and Outlaws is shaping up to be a game that takes players to galaxies far, far away.
