SUMMARY
  • Star Wars Outlaws didn't at all reach the expected height; instead, it's fallen and taken down Ubisoft together.
  • Despite this failure, Michael Douse figured out some features that are brilliant, but the game didn't implement them properly.
  • After this failure, everything depends on Assassin’s Creed Shadows' success; otherwise, it will be complicated for Ubisoft.

Star Wars Outlaws was one of the anticipated games of 2024, which registered its name among Ubisoft’s underperforming games. These back-to-back failures caused the company a lot. Though players didn’t receive the game well, one member of Baldur’s Gate 3 developer team opined that Star Wars Outlaws should have received more credit for one feature.

Ubisoft has reached the lowest already after delivering underperforming games this year. This year, both titles were failed. Despite Star Wars Outlaws featuring iconic locations and a vast open world, nothing worked to draw fans’ attention.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Publishing Director Finds Some Appreciating Elements in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws has some features that deserve some appreciation, despite its massive downfall.

Ubisoft has been going through the worst time in its entire history. Surprisingly, at this difficult time, Baldur’s Gate 3 Publishing Director, Michael Douse, appeared to highlight one element that players should have appreciated.

Well, that’s surprising because Douse, around the release time of Star Wars Outlaws, slammed the game for its high pricing. The Ultimate Edition of the game was €129.99, and the publishing director expressed his dissatisfaction with this hefty price.

He even mentioned,

“I think a game should be priced accordingly with its quality, breadth & depth. I’m not against higher prices, but this arbitrary uniformity just doesn’t make sense to me.

Weeks later, he again appeared, but this time he talked for the game and expressed Star Wars Outlaws hadn’t received enough credit for the abilities and upgrade system of the game.

According to him, even if one omitted the XP system, the game provides exciting tasks and interactions, which he found brilliant in the Star Wars world.

In his opinion, these systems are weak in the game, but these are potent glimpses of brilliance that deserve praise.

Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows Be the Savior to Ubisoft?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is holding the last hope for Ubisoft to survive this bad time.

While a lot of major gaming companies are suffering bad times, including Microsoft with two layoffs this year, no one probably reached the point where Ubisoft is currently standing. This year, up to this point, the company has released three games: Skull and Bones, XDefiant, and Star Wars Outlaws. Unfortunately, all three games faced a downfall.

This underperforming trend has been going on for a few years already, but it never turned so bad before. With three consequent failures, Ubisoft’s share has fallen further down and reached the bottom that it hasn’t seen since 2014.

The downfall has now concerned the stakeholders who demand Ubisoft to go private. Additionally, suggestions also hinted at cost reduction and staff optimization. If Ubisoft takes it seriously, another layoff is not far away.

Now, all the hopes are centered around one of the defining franchises of Ubisoft, after Far Cry. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on December 12. If Ubisoft has to turn the tables, this game must perform miraculously well.

The gameplay trailers reveal the game will bring an exciting storyline and gameplay. So, hopefully, this game won’t meet the same fate as others. But if the company faces back-to-back fourth failures this year, Ubisoft’s survival will become tough in the gaming market.
