Sparking Zero Finally Gives Dragon Ball GT the Respect It Truly Deserves

With not even a full month to go before Sparking Zero fills the void left by the iconic Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series more than a decade ago, the character roster for the upcoming game is getting closer to getting completely revealed. Only a few more spots remain regarding which fighters will be making their way to the Spike Chunsoft-developed title, as publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has just shared yet another explosive trailer for the next Budokai Tenkaichi.
But what makes this one special is that it gives a certain Dragon Ball anime series some much-deserved respect after years of getting neglected in recent major games in the franchise.
Continuing the Budokai Tenkaichi Tradition, Sparking Zero Is Bringing Life Back Into an Overlooked Anime
While the Sparking Zero character roster reveals up until this point have been more or less expected, with a few surprises sprinkled in sometimes, the latest trailer revealed by Bandai Namco puts characters from an overlooked anime back into the spotlight in a mainline Dragon Ball video game.
Starting all the way back in 1996, Dragon Ball GT was the first anime series to not be based on a manga, as it took up the responsibility to continue the narrative from where Dragon Ball Z left off and create its own original story in the process. Not adapting any of Akira Toriyama’s stories this time around, Toei Animation faced plenty of criticism from the die-hard Dragon Ball fanbase, but as the decades have gone by, fans have started to get more appreciation for the series’ characters and world-building.
The Budokai Tenkaichi games gave Dragon Ball GT another life by putting them at the forefront right next to the other beloved series, and continuing tradition set by its predecessors, Sparking Zero is also going to feature the original anime in all its glory.
Often considered to be the anime equivalent of DLC, Dragon Ball GT did not prove to be the biggest hit, but it still had plenty of elements that actually worked, which makes its inclusion in the upcoming title all the more exciting.
From Super Saiyan 4 to Omega Shenron, Dragon Ball GT Is Getting Fully Represented by Iconic Characters
It has been a long time since a major video game in the franchise featured such an extensive range of characters from Dragon Ball GT for its roster, as Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced more fighters who will be making their way to Sparking Zero.
First comes Goku in his kid version from GT and his various Super Saiyan forms, along with Vegeta and Gogeta from the original anime being featured in their Super Saiyan 4 versions as well.
Dragon Ball GT also did not have a shortage of excellent planet-threatening villains that Goku and his crew had to take care of, and Sparking Zero is bringing Baby Vegeta and his numerous forms along with Shenron in his Syn and Omega versions to its massive roster.
Of course, the Dragon Ball GT homage would not have been complete without the inclusion of Goku’s granddaughter Pan and the human reincarnation of Kid Buu, Uub, and his Majuub form. Sparking Zero has been doing a stellar job elevating its source material with its own twists on certain elements, and with the addition of GT characters and storylines, October 11 can’t come soon enough.
