Space Marine 2 Could Feature the Return of a Surprising Character No-One Expected
The fanbase isn't too fond of his potential comeback in Space Marine 2.
With the highly anticipated launch of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 just around the corner, developer Saber Interactive has shared a bunch of new details regarding what fans can expect from the upcoming sequel. Continuing an immersive plot introduced by Relic Entertainment nearly 13 years ago, the next installment is set to showcase what lies ahead for Captain Demetrian Titus, as things did not exactly end on the brightest note for the Space Marine back in 2011.
One of the major reasons for Titus’ fate in the original game and the situation that he will likely find himself in at the beginning of the second title is a certain character who may be one of the biggest backstabbers in the history of gaming, and he could be making a grand comeback.
Space Marine 2 Could Include a Backstabbing Character From the Original Game
Addressing the potential questions that the general audience may have regarding its upcoming release, Saber Interactive also clarified if players need to be familiar with the first game’s plot in order to get into Space Marine 2. Considering that it has been more than a decade since the original title was launched, it would not be unexpected for many new players to not know what Captain Titus was up to all those years back.
However, one thing that stood out glaringly in the developer’s answer was that the next Warhammer 40K video game will feature “returning characters,” resulting in the fanbase speculating about which ones will be making their way into the sequel.
Major spoilers follow for the original Space Marine and its final act, but of course, a character who instantly came to Warhammer 40K fans’ minds was Leandros, Titus’ former brother-in-arm, who players used to spend most of their time with in the first installment’s narrative.
Long story short, in a shocking turn of events, Leandros betrays his Captain Titus, believing that the Chaos got to him as well due to his ability to resist warp energies. That leads the Tactical Marine to report his Captain to the Inquisition, resulting in his arrest and investigation on charges of heresy, which is likely the point where Space Marine 2 will begin.
Leandros Is Likely a Part of the Next Warhammer 40K Title, Whether One Likes Him or Not
With the potential of being one of the most unlikable Space Marines in the history of the faction, Leandros does not have many fans hoping to see him return in the upcoming title, despite the high probability of him being a major part of its narrative.
The backstabber is portrayed as someone who really likes to follow all of the rules stated in the Codex Astartes, but when he himself broke one important rule and reported his Captain to the Inquisition instead of the Chaplain, it makes his traitorous motivations feel even worse.
Despite being responsible for a plot twist for the ages, Leandros does not seem to have too many fans wanting to see him return, as they are making their feelings toward him quite clear.
Whether the backstabbing character returns or not will be revealed next month on September 9, 2024, but with the level of carnage that Saber Interactive has promised, Space Marine 2 could give the fanbase a chance to finally get its sweet revenge against Leandros.
