In its five-month lifespan, Helldivers 2 has enjoyed extraordinary highs, but the level of success that Arrowhead has managed to achieve doesn’t come without low hindrances. From account-linking controversies to concerns about longevity, the second Helldivers installment’s had its fair share of ups and downs, but a major aspect that’s been the main point in discussions is the roster of weapons that the game includes.

Although an overhaul over its predecessor, Helldivers 2 still has a long way to go, and it can learn a lot from its original counterpart.

Helldivers 2 Should Introduce the Energized Sabers From the Original Game

Helldivers 2 could take a page out of its predecessor's book to become an even better experience.

Director Johan Pilestedt’s first outing in the Helldivers series was a top-down shooter video game, so transforming that concept and implementing it into a third-person shooting title would not have come without its challenges.

Still, there are plenty of elements from the first installment that fans want to see integrated in Helldivers 2, with a particular melee weapon standing out as an addition that would make the sequel an even better gaming experience.

Helldivers 2 may have a wide variety of weapons for the players to use and protect Super Earth, but they have usually found themselves in the middle of controversy due to certain nerfs that hinder the gameplay and make it far less enjoyable.

However, the lack of melee weapons in the game has been something that the community wants Arrowhead Game Studios to address for a while. In fact, the original Helldivers actually provided its player base with quite a few melee options, including energized sabers that let Star Wars fans live out their Jedi fantasies.

Not only does the weapon fit the overall aesthetic and lore of Helldivers 2, but considering that it was introduced in its predecessor all those years ago, it would be a welcome inclusion in the sequel as well.

The Star Wars Inspiration Could Add New Layers to the Helldivers Sequel

Super Earth's soldiers are in dire need of melee weapons to take on its enemies.

Other fans seem to be onboard with the idea of the energized sabers making a grand comeback in Helldivers 2, as they have already started suggesting more aspects that could take some inspiration from the Star Wars universe.

The sabers are not the only melee weapons that players want to return in the sequel, as the original title also had the option of equipping bayonets, adding more layers to the typical shooting scenarios.

For now, there has not been any kind of confirmation from Arrowhead Game Studios about the addition of melee weapons in the near future, although Johan Pilestedt’s team has the idea under consideration if it is done in a respectful manner.

Regardless, it would be interesting to see how Pilestedt and his developers react to the endless requests about the introduction of proper melee weapons into the game later down the line.

At least Helldivers 2 is finally back on the right track with new updates like the one for Independence Day, keeping the strong momentum of the title going months after its launch.
