Masahiro Ito Chose His Career Over a Girlfriend While Working on Silent Hill
While playing games, generally no-one really thinks of the effort and sacrifices that developers make to turn a concept into a game.
Recently, PCGamer gathered some posts from Masahiro Ito, the original art director of this survival horror series, which revealed that this 52-year-old game designer was so busy dealing with the creepy creatures that he never had a love life.
Masahiro Ito was the art director for Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3, and Konami released these games in four years between 1999 and 2003. After so many years, Ito revealed how he prioritized his career over everything else:
“All the time I was attending my art university or was developing Silent Hill 1, 2, 3, and a cancelled title, I never had any girlfriends cause I had no time for it.”
He further mentioned more things in his posts that highlight the struggle that goes behind a successful game and becoming a renowned name in the world of gaming.
Ito’s Experience With Game Development Isn’t What People Generally Want to Go Through
Masahiro Ito is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the game development industry, with some of the widely acknowledged works in possession. This Japanese designer is highly praised for his creativity, but according to his opinion, “I never thought I was a genius.”
This mindset made him utterly competitive. He wanted to achieve success through hard work, as he used to believe that surrendering himself to work was the only way to accomplish what he wanted.
Therefore, he never cared about losing other things in this process. He has left behind a lot of things, including a girlfriend and love life, to reach where he is now. He missed the warmth of family life. When one fan expressed his family must be proud of his achievements, the art director stated, “I have no family, but thanks so much!“
This is a tough story that may make aspiring youth a little bit doubtful before they choose this career. However, according to Masahiro Ito, he has no regrets for anything he has missed in his life.
