SUMMARY
  • Space Marine 2 may have succeeded on many fronts, but one particular feature has been throwing players off.
  • Due to the ineffectiveness of the problematic mechanic, it becomes quite difficult to survive on the battlefield.
  • Buffing up the melee weapons could potentially fix the issue that many Warhammer 40K fans have been experiencing.

Now that it has been a good few days for Warhammer 40K fans to dive into Space Marine 2 and truly experience everything that Saber Interactive has put on offer for its player base, there are some glaring issues that the community has been going through while playing the game.

While there is plenty to love about the highly anticipated Space Marine sequel, there have been more than enough complaints from various players regarding one crucial aspect that can make or break a deadly encounter with the terrifying Tyranids. With health being of the essence for Captain Demetrian Titus as he faces the endless hordes of enemies on the battlefield, the developer may want to pay attention to the player feedback if it does not want its fans getting completely obliterated during combat.

Contested Health Has Always Been Important in Games, but It Is Even More Crucial in Space Marine 2

The Tyranids can be quite deadly in Space Marine 2, making contested health an essential element during encounters.

Although Space Marine 2 has managed to somehow live up to the extremely high expectations of the Warhammer 40K fanbase, there are still some major problems that players have been witnessing, including cheaters already taking over its PvP mode.

However, while Saber Interactive may not be able to directly tackle the cheating problem, it could instead focus on the contested health mechanic in the Space Marine sequel, as players feel like there needs to be an improvement made to make it more effective.

Now, contested health has always been an integral part in modern video games, but more often than not, it does not take excessive amounts of effort to actually get it back.

Unfortunately, the feature does not exactly work like that in Space Marine 2, making it very difficult to acquire the lost health back due to a lack of possible executions or attacking opportunities nearby. Of course, there are also numerous scenarios in which offense is not an option, as players need to keep their guard up to defend themselves from incoming attacks, resulting in the contested health mechanic just being there without really serving much purpose during intense situations.

The Ineffectiveness of the Feature Begs the Question: Why Include It in the Game at All?

While there are plenty of opportunities to be on the offensive, many situations require a much more defensive approach.

A possible solution to the contested health issue could be found if Saber Interactive chooses to make the melee weapons in Space Marine 2 stronger than they currently are, allowing for more opportunities to attack enemies and fill the bar back up.

Which is where the next major complaint from the player base comes in, as members of the Warhammer 40K community believe that the melee combos don’t do enough damage, leading to less contested health getting restored.

While some overpowered classes like the Melta weapons do not face much of a hindrance in regaining the lost health, the mechanic does not seem to be working equally with other builds, which only leaves the developer with a couple of choices.

Saber Interactive should either release a patch to make the contested health regeneration more effective, perhaps through buffing melee weapons, or it should just get rid of the feature to make things fair across the board.

Saber’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits did state that players might get overwhelmed during intense battles even before Space Marine 2 launched globally, and the Tyranids are ensuring that promise gets fulfilled.
