“Rockstar taking shots”: GTA 5 Bottom Dollar Bounty Update May Have Included a Subtle Shot at 1 Early Anti-GTA Campaigner
Satire and humour have always been undercurrents in GTA games. And Rockstar's latest stunt certainly has both of them in droves.
It’s a great time to be a GTA fan. With GTA 6 set to release next year, and a new update to GTA 5 on current consoles, there’s a lot for players to do in the present – and look forward to for the future.
The new summer update for GTA 5, released alongside patch 1.69 for previous and current-gen consoles and PC brings a new mission type for its players to enjoy: Bottom Dollar Bounties.
Bottom Dollar Bounties Let You Rake In the Big Bucks
The new update lets you take on the role of a vigilante working alongside LSPD officer Vincent Effenburger and Jenette, the daughter of bounty hunter Maude Eccles to take out several targets that pay out huge bounties for you to earn some extra cash, with daily bounties on the cards in future updates.

You will need that cash as the update brings a host of new rides for you to purchase and new Drift Tuning Upgrades for them along with higher payouts on existing activities to let you enjoy your time in Los Santos to the fullest – a great addition to a game that’s nearly eleven years old at this point. How the time flies!
A Tongue-in-Cheek Reference to An Old Hater
It wasn’t always smooth sailing for the GTA franchise, however. The new Bottom Dollar Bounties include a callback to a time when the franchise was under fire for some of its more violent content which many individuals who set themselves against violence in video games latched on to as an excuse to show their displeasure with the first game.
One of the new Most Wanted Bounties includes a name that many fans of the original franchise remember all too well. Chaz Lieberman is a subtle reference to Joe Lieberman, a former Democrat who was quite vocal about his issues with the original GTA back in 2004.
In a tweet from his official handle, RockStar Games fan Ben can barely hide his glee at the new inclusion, being quick to remind GTA fans about Joe’s statements on the game even as he points out that the mission in question includes a new gameplay mechanic to encourage players to take this bounty on.
And Ben isn’t the only fan who is delighted at Rockstar’s humourous response to Leiberman’s appearance in GTA 5. Others were quick to comment on how Rockstar Games uses satire and irony to deal with their haters.
Another fan thinks that Sam Houser, the current president and long-standing producer of the franchise had something to do with Leiberman’s appearance in GTA 5’s new update.
It’s clear that GTA fans have long memories. One can only hope that Leiberman does not have any problems with GTA 6 and the return of dual-wielding weapons when it comes out in Fall 2025.
