SUMMARY
  • In honor of PlayStation turning 30 later this year, Sony has announced limited edition products celebrating the occasion.
  • The PS5 Pro announcement is barely over a week old, but it is already getting a 30th anniversary edition bundle.
  • This has raised some concerns within the PlayStation community, as it wonders about how much the bundle would cost.

Although it has been just over a week since Sony Interactive Entertainment officially unveiled the highly anticipated PS5 Pro, it looks like the new console edition was not the only update that the company had in store for PlayStation fans in September.

Originally launched all the way back in 1994, the PlayStation brand is going to turn 30 years old in a few months, prompting Sony to capitalize on the opportunity and announce something extremely nostalgic for long-term fans who have been around since the first console generation. But it seems like even nostalgia is not proving to be as strong a weapon as Sony might have hoped, as the fanbase still can’t get over the hefty price tag that the PlayStation 5 Pro is going to be accompanied with.

While the PlayStation community has already started looking to the future and speculating about various details regarding a potential PS6, Sony is taking things back to a simpler time with its current-gen consoles, which includes its upcoming PS5 Pro.

With not even a full three months to go before PlayStation officially turns 30 years old on December 3, Sony has given a sentimental makeover to all of the major current-gen PS5 products, including a special limited edition bundle for the next version of the console.

PlayStation veterans probably remember a time before Sony adopted the color black for numerous console generations and embraced white to ensure that the PS5 fits the futuristic aesthetic, as the very first PS console was perfectly balanced in between with a pleasing gray.

Well, Sony is now offering the PS5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle, which includes the console dripped in nostalgic gray instead of its usual white, and interestingly enough, it actually has a vertical stand this time around.

But the standout features of the bundle are its collector’s items, which include plenty of throwbacks such as an OG PS controller-style cable connector housing, cable ties, a sticker, an exclusive poster, and a paperclip. Of course, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition received a similar treatment, along with the PS Portal and the DualSense also getting grayed out to celebrate the brand’s birthday.

If PS5 Pro Costs $700, How Much Would the Limited Edition Bundle Cost?

PS5 Pro's price was already considered hefty without the vertical stand, so it remains to be seen what pricing Sony sets for the limited edition bundle.

The exclusion of the vertical stand from the standard PS5 Pro has been a controversial topic ever since Sony revealed its upcoming console edition, so in order to carry out some potential damage control, the newly announced bundle actually includes the item, along with a standard and an Edge DualSense controller, a Charging Station, and a Console Cover for a Disc Drive that is not included.

Which naturally raised a vital question among the PlayStation community: how much is Sony planning to charge for the upcoming bundle?

Some players are still not over the $700 price of the PS5 Pro, which comes without everything that is in the limited edition bundle, resulting in sheer disappointment.

Sony also announced that the PS5 Pro bundle will only get 12,300 units, which definitely lives up to its limited edition name, leading to fans wondering if this exclusive approach is even an effective one to take.

The silence around the price of the PS5 Pro limited edition bundle will most likely be broken when it enters its pre-order phase on September 26, after which it will launch on November 21.
