Pokémon GO Announces a New Story and Sweet Bonuses for May 2024’s Community Day
Niantic is ready to celebrate its fanbase.
Pokémon GO may not be at the heights that it managed to reach at its launch eight years ago, but the augmented reality game is trying its best to provide the player base with new content. In the hopes of getting more players on board and rediscovering the virtual world, Niantic is gearing up for a celebratory day for its community this month, and the developer has announced fresh content that’ll be added to the game.
The Pokémon GO update will include a new story chapter, more focus on a specific character, and other bonuses.
Bounsweet Takes Center Stage in Pokémon GO’s Upcoming Update
Bounsweet may not be the most high-profile Pokémon, but Niantic is looking to put more respect on its name by featuring it as the main character in GO‘s Community Day update. Also known as the Fruit Pokémon, Bounsweet will start making more appearances in the game, as the celebration kicks off on May 19 at 2 p.m. and will last till 5 p.m. Lucky players may even get the opportunity to catch the Shiny variant of Bounsweet, but the appearances are not all that will accompany the featured Pokémon.

Pokémon GO is also providing the players with the chance to get a special version of one of Bounsweet’s evolution forms, as Niantic announced that anyone who evolves Steenee, which is the first transformation, “during the event or up to five hours afterward” will receive its ultimate form, Tsareena. This evolution will not be ordinary since the Tsareena will be able to perform the Charged Attack High Jump Kick if acquired through the May 2024 Community Day.
The featured attack comes with its own special perks, including 110 power during Trainer Battles, but comes with the setback of a decrease in the user’s defensive attributes.
Pokémon GO Is Getting Special Story Content on Its Community Day
Calling it the “Community Day Special Research Story,” Niantic is giving Bounsweet its own content exclusively on the celebratory occasion. Players can access the upcoming story content for just $1.00, but they will have to wait for the “tickets” to become officially available before purchasing them.

To strengthen the Pokémon GO community even further, the developer noted that players can also buy and gift tickets to their friends, but only if “a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher” has been reached between them.
Although the Community Day event will only last for three hours, the bonuses that accompany it will be available until 10 p.m. and feature various items to make the Pokémon catching process more efficient. These include a couple of Candy, reduced Egg Hatch Distance, Lure Modules, Incense, and more. Furthermore, Niantic also has a surprise for players who take in-game screenshots during the event, along with special Raid Battles to top it all off.
The announcement shows that the Pokémon franchise is not just great at pulling off amazing April Fools pranks but is still going strong by keeping its fanbase entertained with fresh content.
