PlayStation Stokes the Fires of Gamers’ Rage as It Changes a Much-Loved Feature
Once again, Sony is making some changes to PlayStation's most beloved feature, but this time, it is a complete mess.
- Sony is trying to update PlayStation Stars without any prior announcement.
- After the August update, once again, this has enraged players.
- The most problematic part is that this time, players from various countries are facing different issues.
Sony is making some changes to PlayStation features. Often, consoles go through policy updates or other changes that bring new features or remove some existing ones. It looks like, in Sony’s case, players have been facing the latter, as the community members reported about losing one massively popular feature.
PlayStation Stars is one of the most beloved parts of the PlayStation experience. These stars can be earned through various in-game activities, and then, players can redeem them for PSN wallet funds. Later, these can be used to purchase items from the PS Store. This process has recently changed, and players, of course, haven’t accepted it positively.
Sony Updates PlayStation Stars System to Change Rewards
PlayStation Stars was introduced two years ago in October 2022, and since then, it has become a vital part of console gaming, especially because the earning method doesn’t require much effort. Sometimes, purchasing games and DLCs gives players points; otherwise, completing specific campaigns and activities also comes with rewards.
However, in June, this system went offline for some reason and again appeared in service one month later in July. Since then, Sony has been making back-to-back controversial decisions. Previously, in August, the company decided to implement a change in which players can no longer store and use the points for 24 months. According to the new change, these points will expire within 12 months. This decision received massive backlash.
Once again, in October, the updated reward system angered the entire community. PlayStation Stars was mostly loved because players used to convert these points into Store Credit. However, it looks like with a new update, Sony has changed this system.
On Reddit, one player has reported that Sony “removed the option to redeem points for store credit.” As soon as it appeared, players from different corners of the globe reported this same issue. The most notable part is this update came without any prior announcement.
Whether it is a permanent change or not isn’t yet known, as no official update was released about this change.
Sony’s PlayStation Stars Update Has Created a Mess
This year was massively eventful for PS gamers. While the announcement of PS5 Pro brought an air of happiness, the PSN servers being down made them frustrated. Along with that, controversial decisions by Sony have always been there.
Even the latest one created a mess, as other community members reported facing different scenarios with the PlayStation Stars system.
On Reddit, several players reported that the previous options of 1,250 points for $5 and 5,000 points for $20 are now gone. Presently, all they can see is 2,500 points for $10.
That’s also not the case for everyone, as several reports claim they don’t find any option at all.
On the other hand, some players claimed to have the $5 and $10 options, but the $20 option is not working for them.
Well, what Sony really wants to do isn’t yet clear, but the situation is confusing for players, and they are not happy with it for sure.
It’s not sure whether Sony has set the options like that intentionally or if it has been trying different options to find the best ones.
