PlayStation Network Being Down Sends Fans Into Meltdown and Proves Why ‘Always Online’ Needs to Disappear in the Next Console Generation
October didn't start well for PlayStation players, as they faced a major PSN failure that showed why the always online concept shouldn't be continued.
- PlayStation consoles stopped working on October 1, as PSN suffered a major server outage, suddenly logging out millions of fans.
- Though it stayed offline only for a few hours, it created massive negative reactions among PS players across the world.
- Some players even suspected that Sony got hacked once again like 2011.
Unexpected incidents often occur, and Sony is not out of the list. Outages are kind of common in every online platform, and often, these sudden downsides cause loads of issues. Sometimes these things stop emergency services worldwide. However, Sony’s case was not that intense.
A massive disruption happened, and players suddenly got logged out of their PSN accounts. This situation lasted for a few hours, but it created a major outburst among the PlayStation community, where gamers were furious for not being able to play games, despite their internet connections working fine.
PlayStation Network Disaster Has Revealed Why Always Online Is a Bad Idea for Consoles
It’s almost time for Sony to bring PS5 Pro, and gamers are waiting to give renowned titles a try on the new console edition. At this point, PlayStation encountered a huge PSN outage that impacted the PS5, PS4, PS Vita, and, in fact, an older generation console, PS3, on October 1.
It stayed for a few hours, but for gamers, it seemed to be an entire era. Though Sony revealed no official statement about the cause, the PSN status page is currently showing, “all services are up and running.”
Despite the PSN servers being back, this breakdown showed how bad an idea it is to make the consoles ‘always online.’ During the release of Xbox One, it was stated that this console required to be connected to the internet constantly, even if players wanted to play solo. Anyway, it was finally not the case, and Sony never considered this concept for the PS consoles.
This massive server outage proved the importance of offline mode. Though constant internet connection is not a big issue in recent times, if the online servers go down, nothing works. The latest PlayStation outage disrupted access to both single-player and multiplayer games that require online connections. But games that can be played offline worked fine during the entire time.
PlayStation Network Outage Caused an Outburst Among the Community
When the logging out issue started, players took it to different social platforms to confirm what was happening. As soon as players realized that all the PSN servers were gone and there was nothing they could do except wait, the annoyance reached its peak with them bursting out in rage on different platforms, including X and Reddit.
Some of them expressed they hate it because they couldn’t even access single-player games due to this PSN issue.
A few of them stated that it would be the same case with the PS5 Pro; despite having loads of advanced features, it would go off when PSN is down.
Multiple players revealed that it’s time to switch to a new console as the PlayStation is not good anymore.
Some players were angry because everything is connected and they couldn’t enjoy the games because of the PSN disaster.
However, some players even suspected it was a hack like they had encountered in 2011. That year, in April, Sony experienced a massive data breach that affected PSN and other services.
Hackers got unauthorized access to Sony’s network and gathered the personal information of millions of players.
The issue was so intense that it took Sony more than three weeks to resolve the matter and bring normalcy back.
