2024 has been a rollercoaster ride for PlayStation and its massive fanbase, as along with excellent exclusive titles to play, there have also been some baffling decisions from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s side that have not exactly sat well with the players.

While the PS player base keeps asking for certain remakes and remasters of older video games that were amazing experiences when they first launched but could not really stand the test of time after all these years, it seems like Sony has heard the requests of its fans, at least to some extent. Ignoring all of the other titles that may deserve a remake or remaster before one that was released not even that long ago, Guerrilla Games’ 2017 action RPG could be making a grand return very soon.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Gets Rated on ESRB’s Website Before Official Announcement

Initially launched just seven years ago, Horizon Zero Dawn may already be getting a remastered version very soon.

While it would make perfect sense for Sony Interactive Entertainment to align the release of a major first-party title with the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in November, perhaps Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered would not have been the top choice for the PS player base.

However, even before Guerrilla Games could officially announce the remastered version of its post-apocalyptic adventure, the title has already been rated on the official ESRB website as being suitable for the “Teen” and older demographics. Aloy, at this point, has arguably become a PlayStation Studios icon, but her very first AAA adventure only has two versions currently available: PS4 and PC.

Of course, the PlayStation 5 can run the PS4 version of the game without any issues, but it does not really provide the current-gen experience that its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, has been offering since 2022. The ESRB rating also states that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is all set to launch on PC and PlayStation 5, with a potential possibility of it being bundled together with the PS5 Pro once it launches in a couple of months.

The PlayStation Fanbase Expresses Its Disappointment in the Guerrilla Games Remaster

Reactions among the PlayStation community have been quite lukewarm regarding the remaster reveal.
Reactions among the PlayStation community have been quite lukewarm regarding the remaster reveal.

Although there have been plenty of PlayStation exclusive games that have come out for the PS5 since its launch nearly four years ago, things have been relatively quiet when it comes to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party studios, leading to speculations that perhaps the Pro edition might break the silence and reveal new titles or sequels to beloved IPs.

Unfortunately, with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered‘s rating, the PlayStation community is starting to realize that even the next console might only be focusing on bringing older titles and enhancing them with current-gen technology.

Another argument raised by a member of the fanbase is that an approach similar to how The Last of Us Part 1 was handled, which was a proper remake instead of a simple remaster to bring it up to the sequel’s caliber, would have been a much better way to go for Guerrilla and Sony with Horizon Zero Dawn as well.

PlayStation players are also pointing out that other older titles are more deserving of getting the current-gen treatment, as Horizon Zero Dawn‘s initial release was relatively recent and a remastered version could have waited a couple of more years.

Sony may be dominating its competition in the gaming console market, but decisions like these are gradually making players less interested in some of the recent PlayStation reveals, suggesting that the company may need to pay more attention to what its fanbase actually wants or needs.
