“Players should not give up hope”: Square Enix Boss Tries to Placate the Xbox Players Desperate for Final Fantasy 16
Final Fantasy 16 has already been released on PC, but recently, Xbox gamers also got exciting news that their hope to get the game isn't zero.
- Final Fantasy 16 was released on Windows on September 17, 2024.
- At this point, a statement from the game's director and designer has lit up the hopes of Xbox players.
- Yoshida is more interested in Final Fantasy 14, as he considers it his life's work.
Game developers always try to expand the fanbase of their renowned titles, and Square Enix is no exception. It has already surfaced that Square Enix is trying to revise its platform model and make the Final Fantasy games accessible to a large audience. Taking it a little further, one of Square Enix’s finest game directors assured Xbox fans about getting Final Fantasy 16.
It’s not like the Final Fantasy series is PlayStation exclusive; instead, almost all the gaming platforms have these games, including Xbox One and Series consoles. However, the primary focus of Square Enix has always been PS; therefore, few massively successful titles like Final Fantasy 16 have not been released on Xbox yet.
Final Fantasy 16 Coming on Xbox Isn’t a Rumor Anymore
It’s already been a while since Square Enix started its run to bring Final Fantasy games to Xbox. In March 2024, it brought Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X/S. However, the response was below expectations.
Anyway, it is clear that one failure didn’t discourage the Japanese developer, and it wants to give the multi-platform model another try with Final Fantasy 16.
Recently, Final Fantasy fans have been encouraging Xbox gamers not to give up on expecting Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox in the future.
Initially, there was no evidence to establish this point; but it’s not a rumor anymore. The director and designer of the Final Fantasy series, Naoki Yoshida, almost confirmed this news.
During an interview, he assured Xbox fans by saying the company wants to release Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox as well. Though he continued, “we are not in a position to be able to share anything,” regarding the release time, he clearly stated that the hopes are not zero.
Anyway, that’s not all the interview revealed. The designer of the series talked more about these games, especially Final Fantasy 14.
Naoki Yoshida Has Further Plans for Final Fantasy 14 Until He Retires
Final Fantasy 14 was one of the disastrous games of the series when it was released in 2013. Later, it received a few expansions to make it better, but the Xbox version once again disappointed the developer.
Naturally, the question about the game’s future was raised in the interview, and Yoshida revealed a lot of new information. Per him, Square Enix is not going to leave Final Fantasy 14 anytime soon. Instead, he mentioned,
“We will continue expanding on this and continue making content and forms of play so that players will be able to enjoy the game.”
He even talked about some ideas that he wants to start working on to bring new content to the game. Anyway, he prevented himself from revealing anything further about what he has been planning for the future.
Furthermore, he expressed that for him, Final Fantasy 14 is a project that he wants to continue working on until he retires.
Continuing his statement, he revealed that he wants to arrange the game in such a way that, even after he retires, the development won’t stop for this particular Final Fantasy game.
