“Particularly from people from overseas”: Elden Ring Fame has Hit Hidetaka Miyazaki More Than Any of His Previous Games
The brains behind FromSoftware's greatest hits wold like to remind everyone that he did not achieve greatness on his own.
Elden Ring has been a benchmark in open-world RPGs, keeping its players returning to The Lands Between for more than two years. Its upcoming – and only – DLC expansion Shadow of the Erdtree has fans of the game waiting on the edge of their seats for the countdown to finally signal its release and begin their journey into the Land of Shadow.
While FromSoftware is surely delighted with the success of what many call their flagship title, it seems that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the man at the center of it all, is yet to come to terms with just how well his creations have changed his life. If his recent statements are anything to go by, it looks like he has not let success get to his head.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend!
Miyazaki’s ability to constantly titles that raise the bar for what gaming experiences can offer is nothing short of wondrous. Fans of his Dark Souls franchise continue to dive back into his games while his standalone projects like Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice continue to enthrall gamers across the world.
Miyazaki’s worlds often contrast stunning locales with dangerous enemies against abstract, poignant narratives that have captivated players who dare to enter them. Inspiring an entire genre of games along with a slew of lore videos, creative builds, and of course, other titles inspired by his work, Miyazaki is a major presence in the gaming world – and he is here to stay.
A Role Model in More Ways Than One
However, it seems that Miyazaki prefers to remain anonymous, finding his newfound success and larger-than-life reputation to be a side effect of his work. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, he expressed his surprise at being recognized by people from all over the world – both at home and during his travels around the world.
“It gives me this feeling I didn’t have before, of people enjoying and playing these games. And also it keeps me on my best behavior as well, when I know people know who I am.”
It’s evident that the man behind so many of the past decade’s finest titles shares in the delight of his fans who have experienced his games, while he strives to stay grounded and let his work do the talking. It is also heartening to see him share that success with those who helped make his visions a reality as he offered a glowing endorsement of his team back at FromSoftware.
Hidetaka Miyazaki is a legend to many across the world. And from the looks of it, he may already be back to the drawing board, hard at work on his next big project. While that may be a few years away, we’re certain that Shadow of the Erdtree is going to keep us occupied for a long time to come!
