Elden Ring is famous for several unique aspects of the game, and among them weapon variety and designs come at the top. From the beginning the game offers players different swords and katanas which are necessary to take enemies down and among them one of the best katana is the Rivers of Blood katana. Though the game gives a brief history of this katana, the original history is more interesting and started long before.

Okina was the greatest warrior from the Lands of Reed. Eventually, he attracted a cult of followers who used to be renowned as the White Reeds. His followers used to fight wearing white clothes that were the symbols of death preparedness in Japanese culture. However, Okina didn’t stay with the cult and he eventually abandoned all these avid followers, and took himself to a more inclined stage with his katana and his mastery.

The later part of the story is already what Elden Ring stated. During his fight with Mohg, The Lord of Blood, Okina landed a strike on Mohg. As soon as the Lord of Blood felt the madness and the power of Okina’s Sword, he acknowledged the katana and placed a counter offer. He proposed to Okina a life of Demon, where his bloodshed would never go unsated. Therefore, Okina invades endlessly as a Bloody Finger. 

Rivers of Blood Katana Location in Elden Ring- Japanese Myth Associated With the Origin of the Katana

In Elden Ring, Rivers of Blood is a cursed Katana which is also a late game weapon that can be found after players make their way to the Mountaintops of the Giants. To reach the location, players need to complete a substantial amount of the game’s story. Once players reach Mountaintops of the Giants, they have to go to the Church of Repose which is located in the Southeast side of the map. In front of the Church, players will find Okina with his cursed sword. Defeating him will reward players with Rivers of Blood katana. However, the fight won’t be easy as the enemy will inflict blood loss effect frequently.

After going through the history of Okina and the Rivers of Blood katana, players often assume that it resembles the story of a Japanese warrior Muramasa. He was a sixteenth-century warrior, and according to the Japanese legends, all his swords were cursed and imbued with demonic powers which gives the user blood thrust. That’s an assumption anyway, without any historical evidence.
