One could be forgiven for thinking that Mortal Kombat 1 and Avengers: Endgame share nothing in common. With the former’s penchant for blood and gore being entirely opposite to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s more family-friendly leanings, the two franchises take entirely different directions to their depictions of combat for audiences to enjoy.

Although elements like thunder gods in both franchises, along with some heroes relying on technological superiority, do bring up areas of similarity, their narratives may not share an obvious connection. However, Mortal Kombat 1’s new story DLC Khaos Reigns might be about to change that.

Has Mortal Kombat 1 Copied a Major Plot Point From Endgame?

Mortal Kombat 1 is about to bring new characters, maps, and story beats to the table with its latest expansion.

Fans of the two franchises seem to think so. Khaos Reigns sees the cleric of chaos Havik seek control of the realms, choosing to remake them in the image of Chaosrealm, his homeworld. As somebody who was treated quite badly at the hands of Orderrealm’s society, his thirst for revenge drives him to seek chaos at every turn.

Havik’s mission sees him look for the Kamidogu, relics that contain the essence of every realm in the Mortal Kombat universe. While these relics have taken many forms over the years since Mortal Kombat: Deception, their recent makeover has caused more than a few players to draw parallels with Avengers: Endgame, along with other scenes that look very similar to the film.

What Came First, Armageddon or the Avengers?

With fresh takes on fan favorites, Khaos Reigns is sure to add new twists to the story.

As a few players posted about how NetherRealm Studios might have taken a shortcut in its depictions of the Kamidogu by copying Avengers: Endgame, other fans have pointed out that they have been a presence in the Mortal Kombat universe since 2004, the year in which Deception was released.

However, as the post below showcases, the Kamidogu’s latest appearance has made them look very similar to the Infinity Stones that formed the crux of Thanos’ plan to wipe out half of the galaxy’s population to create what he called a perfect balance.

Fans have also pointed out that the scene in which Liu Kang assembles a majority of Mortal Kombat 1’s cast seems quite similar to the climactic fight of Avengers: Endgame. However, other players were quick to point out some crucial facts to prove them wrong – considering that Mortal Kombat: Armageddon did the exact same thing.

While the multiverse has indeed allowed NetherRealm Studios to bend the rules of life and death in Mortal Kombat in recent times, it does not necessarily equate to copying from Marvel on its part. However, one eagle-eyed player has found other places in which the studio has seemingly taken inspiration from other popular franchises for its revamped characterizations.

Other players point out the obvious fact that the Kamidogu have been in play for a very long time in Mortal Kombat’s overall narrative – an important detail considering that they formed a major part of the story in Mortal Kombat X’s comic books as well.

While Mortal Kombat 1‘s new expansion does feature a few similarities to Avengers: Endgame, it would be incorrect to assume that NetherRealm Studios has copied the popular film considering the long history of the Kamidogu in its universe.

Whatever the case, Khaos Reigns is all set to continue the explosive narrative and changed status quo that Mortal Kombat 1 has brought to the table when it releases later this year.
