Elden Ring‘s release in February 2022 marked a change in the way action RPGs were approached by players and developers alike. The game’s design encourages exploration in ways that few other games have done in the past, allowing FromSoftware to flex its creative chops in a way that allows its players to do the same.

Despite Dark Souls III, a previous title in the genre having several unique weapons and a lot of cool builds for its players to create, Elden Ring combined that scope with an open world that was never seen in a FromSoftware game before, creating a truly unique experience that was furthered by its DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring’s Unique Take on Miyazaki’s Vision

Elden Ring is a new benchmark for the Soulslike genre that its competitors are yet to beat.

While the Elden Ring director is known for making games that combine environmental storytelling with challenging, difficult level designs and hard-hitting combat encounters, previous titles like Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice were more focused in their level designs, taking players down branching but ultimately linear pathways to progress.

Elden Ring turned that design philosophy on itself to allow its players an unprecedented amount of freedom in their approach to the game’s many areas, with only their skill and power limiting them from conquering the sprawling map of The Lands Between. And it seems like for fans of the game on PC, modders are bringing an entirely new set of challenges and possibilities to the beloved RPG.

With loads of challenging enemies and a ton of cool gear, Shadow of the Erdtree’s success is well-earned.

One mod, in particular, has drawn a lot of attention due to its excellent use by an Elden Ring player looking to give themselves a new challenge to take on. While the Divine Beast Dancing Lion is among the DLC’s first bosses, many players may not have found its tougher variant towards the later stages of the expansion.

This eagle-eyed player, however, not only found the Dancing Lion’s counterpart but took on a challenge that many others would not have dreamed of. In the post below, they are seen using a mod that brings a Call of Duty rifle to Elden Ring as a playable weapon to execute the Dancing Lion in a single hit while turning around in the air.

It’s certainly an interesting way to enjoy Miyazaki’s work which is only accentuated by an excellent track in the background. Some players laud the creativity behind this feat, confirming just how much skill it would require to execute.

Other players took a humorous approach to pointing out a minor error with the mod’s execution.

Some players chose to put a creative spin on what the mod could be titled if it was ever made available to more players.

It’s clear that Elden Ring continues to enjoy a very wide player base and a community of players who are as thrilled about the DLC’s success as FromSoftware is sure to be.

Its fans would certainly want to see more feats like this put a new spin on the company’s current flagship title even as Miyazaki has seemingly moved on to his next project.
