Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Numbers Go Miles Past What Most Games Can Only Dream Of
Marvel Rivals has made the starting of the week better for gamers after Concord's failure.
NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals is one of the most anticipated games that still has no official release date. Reportedly, this game will be released in the first or second quarter of 2025, but even before the game is released, the closed beta of Marvel Rivals has started creating records that even the most anticipated games never reach during playtests.
Marvel Rivals is an upcoming hero-shooter game that has already created a strong fanbase during the closed beta. This game will come on almost every platform with its 21 playable Marvel Comics characters. The latest Steam numbers for this free-to-play game clearly show how excited players have been for it.
Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Reached a Peak on Day 1 That Most Games Never Achieve
Though the official release of the game is still unsure, NetEase Games has opened the servers to access the closed beta version of the game. Expectedly, the playtest started on a positive note, but then it reached a height that the developer may have never expected.
According to the SteamDB charts, the game reached its all-time peak with 52,671 concurrent players grinding through it on Steam within 24 hours. Even at the time of writing, the number is around 19,000. As per reports, throughout Wednesday, the concurrent player number stayed above 10,000.
Though this number is not large compared to fully released games, players need to keep in mind that it’s a closed beta that not everyone can access. Only fortunate players with codes to access the beta can go through the playtest. Therefore, this number confirms how much players are impressed with the gameplay.
This playtest will be available until August 5, and even PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S players can access this closed beta during this time. However, this success of Marvel Rivals once again brought up the topic of Concord’s open beta, which ended this weekend.
PlayStation and PC Players Jointly Boycotted Concord’s Open Beta Even After Its Impressive Trailers
Initially, when the announcement of Concord was released, gamers were all super excited to enjoy the game, but this excitement turned into resentment as soon as they started finding similarities between this game and Destiny 2 and Overwatch. While the trailer was impressive, it appeared to be the same as two other games of the same genre.
The huge success of Marvel Rivals automatically brings its comparison to Concord, which also had its open beta last week, from July 18 to July 21. Though PlayStation players have previously decided not to play this game, it performed unexpectedly on Steam as well.
According to SteamDB charts, the open beta of Concord reached its peak on Day 1, which was 2,388, and then the play count gradually dropped. On Sunday, this game reached its lowest player count and only had 1,117 players. This was too low for a multiplayer game.
On August 23, Concord will officially come to PlayStation 5 and PC. Whether players will accept this game or not is still a riddle.
