Helldivers 2 has been a great addition to the third-person shooter genre since its release earlier this year. The game’s simple premise works well with its variety of weapons, Stratagems, and enemy types to give its players an experience that other titles have found hard to duplicate.

However, the game did face several hurdles on its rise to the top of the genre along with a slump in its player count, as a lack of new content led many of them to move on to other titles. But if a recent Reddit post by one eagle-eyed player is any indication, that looks like it may be about to change.

A New Threat to Democracy May Already Be Around

Helldivers 2 players are eagerly waiting for new enemies to fight in the game.

With its recent update giving existing Stratagems a lot more power, Helldivers 2 players have remained hopeful of future updates adding more enemy types to the game. While the Automatons and Terminids have managed to remain challenging foes, many players are now all too familiar with their strategies and are able to take them out with ease even at higher difficulties.

It’s a great time for Arrowhead Game Studios to bring a new enemy faction into the fold, reigniting the passion with which its fans have continued to support Helldivers 2 while allowing it to regain some of the ground it has lost in the last few months. And from the looks of it, the Illuminate faction may make its presence felt sooner rather than later.

Are the Illuminates Really Extinct in Helldivers 2?

The Illuminate could give the Helldivers a few problems in the coming months.

Reported to have been eliminated as a threat after events in the original Helldivers, lore drops seem to indicate that Super Earth may not have fully wiped out the Illuminate. With several units with unique capabilities at their disposal, they could be biding their time and building up their strength before attempting a full-scale invasion which the Helldivers need to stop.

Images of a mysterious ship attacking an Automaton ship in the sky could be evidence of the Illuminate looking to make a grand entrance.

While their motivations remain unclear at the moment, it’s clear that the Illuminates are going to have some sort of rivalry with the Automatons. Considering that the humanoid robots seek to eliminate all forms of organic life from the galaxy, the Illuminates could be looking to take them out before turning their attention to Super Earth.

They are sure to provide a new level of challenge to the Helldivers once they do, considering their presence in the original game as one among three factions that Super Earth wanted destroyed at all costs.

The next few months are sure to be an exciting time for Helldivers 2 fans who have been clamoring for new content in the game. Arrowhead Game Studios is sure to use this opportunity to give its devoted fans a hell of a time with the Illuminate’s return!
