Ever since Ubisoft revealed the existence of an entry in its long-running Assassin’s Creed series that will be set in Feudal Japan, the upcoming game has become a highly anticipated release. Even before the developer announced that it is currently working on Codename Red, the fanbase had been requesting the studio visit a Japanese setting because of how much potential it truly holds.

After the refreshing success of Mirage just last year, Ubisoft has now gotten rid of the working title and given its next Assassin’s Creed installment an official name, along with announcing that a cinematic trailer will be launched very soon as well.

However, thanks to a long-overdue official announcement by Ubisoft on the franchise’s official X page, it seems like fans will finally get some substantial details about the Japan-set installment.

Putting the working title aside, Ubisoft revealed that the next video game in the series will be called Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which feels fitting for the stealthy nature thanks to which the franchise became popular in the first place.

Not only does the official title fit the aesthetic of the Feudal Japan-set game, but it also hints at the upcoming Assassin’s Creed entry staying true to the series’ roots, which is something that Ubisoft went back to wonderfully with Mirage. Accompanied by a short teaser featuring a huge hourglass in the middle of a Japanese market, the developer also revealed that the Official Cinematic World Premiere Trailer for Shadows will be launched tomorrow, on May 15 at 9 AM PT.

While waiting for the upcoming trailer to be launched, the community has been patiently observing the placeholder page for it on Ubisoft’s official YouTube channel, and while the potential release date for Shadows has since been removed from the description, it could not escape some eagle-eyed members of the fanbase.

It turns out that Ubisoft may actually be planning on releasing Assassin’s Creed Shadows by the end of this year, as the now-deleted launch date mentioned is November 15, 2024. That is just over a year after the studio launched Mirage, and it is definitely a good time to be a fan of the franchise since it is clearly heading in the right direction after a long while.

But most importantly, Ubisoft absolutely needs a win after this year’s problematic Skull and Bones, and Shadows could very well be the game that turns things around for the developer.
