With Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree out in the open for a little under a month now, many players have complained about what a challenge its final boss presents. Featuring a massive callback to Dark Souls III, Promised Consort Radahn is a boss that is absolutely decimating players.

Although many players were happy to solve the mystery of why they needed General Radahn out of the way to access the DLC’s Land of Shadow, his appearance in the final boss fight alongside his half-brother Miquella has proven to be a fight that many players are respeccing their Tarnished to beat.

With several weapons, Talismans, and armor sets on offer in the game’s open world, players are free to choose a combination that works for them according to the situation.

The infamous boss fight against Malenia, Blade of Miquella in the base game is a great example, with many players opting to pick up the Rivers of Blood Katana to stagger her into oblivion. Some players have identified similar strategies with Radahn, prompting conversations about the “right” way to play the game.

Can an Elden Ring Build Be Too Cheesy?

However, the post did reignite the conversation surrounding boss difficulty in FromSoftware’s games, and the legitimacy of using builds found online to beat them.

Other players pointed out that each individual player can choose how they would like to approach the game.

Others were quick to defend this strategy, echoing director Miyazaki’s advice on using every tool at their disposal to win fights.

Another player has a very nuanced take on the topic, bringing the idea of how each gamer chooses to fight by either ensuring a win or risking a loss for a more thrilling experience.

However a player chooses to win against any of Shadow of the Erdtree’s many bosses, it is a testament to the game’s design that there are so many options for them to try out when they find a challenge they can’t beat.

Only FromSoftware could create a game in which every player experiences it in a way that’s truly unique to them, and it looks like Elden Ring is not the end of the road for the Japanese studio.
