The biggest Xbox event took place a few days back on June 9, revealing loads of upcoming games and updates to fuel up the excitement of the fans. The Showcase had impressive trailers of lots of games, but none probably impressed players like the trailer of Gears of War E-Day did.
Initially, a large portion of Xbox gamers praised the trailer as the best one to be revealed at the event this year, but soon a new point of view arose from a separate group of gamers who didn’t find the gameplay trailer as impressive as others.
Gears of War E-Day Trailer Is Not Exactly What Most Fans Expected After the Long Five-Year Wait From Gears 5
Gears of War is one of Xbox’s most popular third-person shooter series, with every installment only increasing the fanbase. The journey of the game highlights the survival struggle between Marcus Fenix and the horde of Locusts. Generally, the installments take the story a step forward, but Gears of War 6 has made an exception and taken the story backward. The trailer revealed that the time of the storyline was 14 years before the Gears of War events.
The story of the game will take players to the more vulnerable state of Sera, where these Locusts are not “simply as foes but as living nightmares.” According to Xbox Wire, these creatures will be different from zombies; they are:
“mysterious, formidable creatures that dwell beneath the earth, tapping into our deepest fears.”
No matter how innovative or thrilling the trailer was, it’s now evident that not everyone is pleased with it. On X, someone commented that this game will take “8-9 years to resolve Gears 5 cliffhanger.”
Someone expressed their opinion, saying maybe the team got stuck after Gears 5. This could be the reason it’s going back instead of forward. Fans even called it a remastered version of Gears of War 3.
Some players called it “Gears of War Reboot.”
However, fans are confused about the roles of Marcus and Dom in the upcoming game, as the Showcase didn’t specify which one would be the protagonist.
Marcus and Dom’s Brotherhood Is Going to Be the Highlight in Gears of War E-Day
The cinematic trailer of the game shows both these characters, and veteran players are well aware of their background. To give a brief backstory, Marcus and Dom are friends, and they are connected through Carlos, who’s Dom’s older brother. These two characters are best friends, and the upcoming game will show the early stages of their friendship.
This friendship will be formed based on their shared burdens and emotions. That’s the base theme of almost all the games in the franchise. They are based on shared burden, belonging, trust, and loyalty. On that note, the creative director of the game, Matt Searcy, revealed in an interview:
“We’re telling the origin story of Marcus and Dom and their bond… this is the bond that defines the franchise.”
As the sources reveal, the game will open in a peaceful environment on Sera. So, these two characters haven’t started fighting the Locust for a decade. Therefore, the Marcus and Dom players will see in the upcoming game will be more vulnerable.
