“I think this is something we have to do”: Bringing Metal Gear Solid 1 to Modern Consoles Would Be Harder Than Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, Konami Says
Metal Gear Solid fans should dismiss the thought of getting remake versions of Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 due to some challenging difficulties.
- Metal Gear Solid fans were looking forward to getting some more remakes that Konami stated wouldn't come any time soon.
- Noriaki Okamura expressed some hurdles that prevented them from making remakes of Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 for next-gen consoles.
- Despite talking about a lot of things, he refused to give even an approximate release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
As the year-end gradually approaches, fans have become more curious about the anticipated titles that were even speculated to be released this year. Among these titles, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater comes at the top. Though the release date hasn’t ever been stated officially, fans have been expecting it to come toward the end of 2024. However, this seems not to be the case.
Now, the issue is that a lot of new generation gamers haven’t ever played any game of this series, despite the Metal Gear series being one of the finest stealth game franchises created by Hideo Kojima and Konami. At this point, remakes are the only option to provide them with this opportunity, but that has been revealed to be a tough thing.
Konami Expressed the Hurdles to Remake the Metal Gear Solid Games
The Metal Gear series is one of the iconic creations of Hideo Kojima, with multiple games released in the window of 1987-2015. After that, the frequency went down, following Kojima’s departure from Konami. Fortunately, Konami still acknowledges the contributions of Kojima after years of him leaving the company.
The most notable part is that, in this era of remakes and remastered games, Konami decided to remake Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and not the major entries before that. Specifically, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2. This is natural to draw the attention of fans, but there was no answer to it until Metal Gear Solid producer Noriaki Okamura appeared for an interview.
During this conversation, Okamura said it is hard to make remake versions of these two games for modern consoles because a lot of things are required to be crafted from scratch if they want to build a remake version. This was not the case with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
So, the strategy he revealed is Konami wants players to play the upcoming remake version, get their feedback, and move on to create something new. Additionally, another problem he pointed out with Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 is that a lot of staff members who were involved with these games have left.
Therefore, at this point, Konami is not looking to expand the game audience range, but it is trying to “create a path to preserve the Metal Gear series for 10 or 50 years into the future.” As Okamura revealed, “I think this is something we have to do.” In this interview, Okamura even talked about the release date of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Metal Gear Solid Producer Revealed the Upcoming Game Is Not Far Away
While almost all the important showcase events in 2024 have had the presence of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the release date, or at least the expected one, has not yet been revealed. Konami has been weirdly silent about the release of the game throughout. Therefore, the question was a must in the interview.
Well, Okamura initially tried to avoid this question, but after a pause, he revealed that the game is “actually already playable to the end, and we don’t expect it to take many years to complete.” This is something that should light up the hopes of Metal Gear Solid fans.
About the reason behind this silence and delay, he revealed that the team’s aim is not to disappoint gamers with the remake version; therefore, it wants to make it as perfect as possible before the official release.
He still hasn’t stated whether the game will come this year, in 2025, or will take more time.
