SUMMARY
  • PlayStation 5's latest system update has brought advertisements in the background of games on the dashboard.
  • The main twist is that these ads can't be skipped, though they are not always relevant to the game.
  • Xbox players have been experiencing these ad issues for a while, but PS5 gamers are already annoyed with it.

The gaming community is ever-evolving. There’s always something happening there, and not everything pleases gamers. While updates are expected to bring new content and features, sometimes these additions disappoint players to a great extent. A recent PlayStation 5 update has done something similar to PS5 players. It has brought something more annoying than creative.

Advertisements are common, but presently, PlayStation 5 players are getting annoyed with a bunch of advertisements they have been seeing. A recent update has triggered this unfavorable situation, but it seems like not every player has a similar opinion about it.

The Latest PlayStation 5 System Update Has Brought Ads That Can’t Be Avoided

PlayStation 5’s latest update doesn’t only introduce advertisements but has made them unskippable.

Advertisements are not only the easiest way to promote, but they are also a convenient way of monetization. Considering these, Sony has recently brought this feature to the PlayStation 5 user interface, but with a slight twist.

On September 30, PlayStation 5 got a new system update, and it now received an advertising system built into the dashboard of the console. Precisely, the UI of PS5 now has advertisements behind each game title, even for those that players have already purchased.

The content of these advertisements includes game trailers, the latest news, updates, and pre-order details for upcoming games. While up to this point, things were still fine, astonishingly, gamers discovered these advertisements are mandatory to watch. Putting it simply, you can’t skip these ads.

This has created a wave of irritation among PS5 players. Of course, the unskippable advertisement feature is the main issue, but there’s something else as well. Not all these ads are related to the game. For example, hovering over an already-released game can show the pre-order details for an upcoming game.

This scenario is prevalent when you hover over Horizon Zero Dawn. It will bring advertisements on LEGO Horizon Adventures. Players have found it confusing and misleading.

Naturally, they are not at all happy with it. Anyway, the situation is not entirely the same throughout the community.

Some PS5 Players Don’t Find These Advertisements Offensive

Though Xbox has had this for some time already, PS5 players are reluctant to accept it.

Since this update has come, many players are disgusted with it. While Xbox has had this feature for a while, PS5 gamers are not ready to accept this promotion strategy. Despite a substantial number of players stating against this advertisement system, a few are finding it all right.

On X, OTC-Quack stated he is not getting the point of players disliking these as he found none of these ads offensive.

Contradicting his opinion, another PlayStation player stated that these advertisements are not offensive for sure, but they are annoying.

A bunch of PS5 players stated that they prefer seeing clean cover art and not promotional videos.

Players even expressed that they haven’t paid for the console to see these ads in the background.

Anyway, the overall reaction is not positive about the UI getting unskippable ads; at least the first wave of expressions is mostly negative.

While Sony is already in loads of trouble, and some are even legal issues, it seems like it has welcomed more by introducing this new feature to PS5.
