Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation have been ruling over the gaming world for decades, with millions of blockbuster games and active users. As the top three gaming platforms, they often compete with each other, especially PlayStation and Xbox, which have been renowned rivals for home consoles. However, a recent survey report reveals that Microsoft has left Sony behind.

Controllers are becoming more popular as a medium for playing games, and their popularity has reached so far that now even Steam players prefer controllers instead of keyboard and mouse. A recent Steam report has shown this increased popularity rate, along with the controller that players mostly use.

Steam Reports Confirm That Xbox Controllers Are Gaining More Popularity While Leaving PlayStation Behind in the Competition

Xbox controllers are giving hard competition to PlayStation’s about Steam games.

Traditionally, controllers are mandatory to play console games, and that’s the reason each console has its respective controller. However, Steam games can be played using any controller you prefer, and a recent report from Valve clearly stated that players are more interested in using Xbox controllers than anything else when they play Steam games.

The latest blog post by Valve showed that controller use has increased rapidly in these few years, and the current daily controller usage stat has reached up to 15%, which is triple the 2018 stats (it was 5% in 2018). The surprise doesn’t end here; the report also revealed that in the total number, 59% of players use Xbox controllers to play Steam games.

While Xbox controllers have taken the majority, only 26% of players use PlayStation controllers. Additionally, the report expressed that 42% of these controller sessions use the Steam Input. However, this report has brought joy to the Xbox community, and someone revealed, “I do for most my games,” supporting this report.

Another player revealed he prefers the Xbox controller because of its smooth integration.

Fans don’t even hesitate to call it “GOAT.”

Someone even expressed their opinion, saying PS5 controllers are not suitable for Windows in many cases. Therefore, using Xbox controllers is the only option they have.

Aside from that, in that same report, Valve talked about the improvements its team has made to make controller usage smoother.

Valve Confirmed How Much It Appreciates This Shifting With the Improvements It Has Made

Valve has taken this shift positively and is trying to improve gameplay experiences on Steam using controllers.

As players are going towards controllers, changes should be made to make their experience better, and Valve has already realized this. The report said,

As usage has grown, our team has continued working to improve and add features to enhance the controller experience for these players.”

About the changes it has made, the first is the redesign of the controller first experience. Now, players and controller users can have a Steam Deck kind of experience on the big screens.

Apart from that, Valve has modified the controller configurations and simplified them to a great extent, along with Gyro aiming, Virtual Menus, and Xbox and PlayStation Controller Supports. It has claimed to work with Sony to solve the DualSense Edge issues.

The current trend, to some extent, shows that the increase in controller usage is not going to stop soon. Instead, this trend will increase every day. So, Steam is now trying to implement Steam Inputs into the games so they can support over 300 controllers, and players can use any controller they want to play the game.

That’s indeed exciting for Xbox players, but there is more exciting news that one shouldn’t miss, and one is related to the classic survival horror game series, Resident Evil. Don’t miss players’ opinions on the release of Resident Evil OG trilogy on GoG. The reactions are different from expectations.
