Once you start your Alone in the Dark journey, soon you will realize that the Derceto Manor is not safe to roam without weapons. The manor is full of mysteries and danger, so weapons are one of the primary requirements of the players. Initially, no matter who you choose to start your journey, will have a pistol to begin the exploration, but as the game progresses, the pistol won’t seem to be enough to take down enemies. Among the powerful weapons, of course, the Shotgun comes at the top.

Shotguns are always one of the most favorite weapons as they deal heavy damage. Irrespective of the game, the damage rate of the shotgun remains high. Therefore, it is recommended that players should unlock the shotgun as early as possible in Alone in the Dark. If you are not sure of the process to unlock it, this guide will help you with all the necessary information.

Where to Find Shotgun in Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark presents players with several different weapons to deal with the monsters, including melee weapons and guns. These weapons are not unlocked from the beginning of the game; instead, they are part of the story and will unlock as players reach a specific point and complete certain activities. The shotgun is no exception. 

Once you start your journey and reach the small parlor next to the Library, the Shotgun will be found there. Reading up to this part already made it clear that the shotgun can’t be found until Chapter 2 of the game. When you finish the first chapter and begin the second one, you will find multiple keys among which one will be the Library Key. 

Now that you have the Library Key, open the library and make your way to the small parlor. The shotgun will be found inside the display glass. Upon inspecting it thoroughly, players will understand that it can’t be broken or unlocked using keys. Therefore, the unlocking process requires you to collect three items: the Rubber Stamp, the Dog Collar, and the Fountain Pen. These are all part of the Lost Children Set. 

Location of the Three Lagniappes in Alone in the Dark

Once you have inspected the box, and understood that there’s no alternative to find these three items to unlock the shotgun, it is time to look for them. Fortunately, none of these require you to put extra effort into finding them. Instead, as they progress through Chapter 2 and explore different locations, eventually these Lagniappes will be acquired.

If you are finding the Rubber Stamp, you need to visit the Reception area. Roam around the location and the rubber stamp will be found on the wooden table. Pick it up and you have found the first item. 

The next one is the Dog Collar and to find it, players need to go to the Drawing Room. The Drawing Room is an important location that players will visit as part of the main story. Once you reach the location, search the entire area and the Dog Collar will be found on a table between two sofas.

Finally, the third and the last item is the Fountain Pen. To get it, players need to make their way to the Batiste’s Room. This room is part of the main story and players must have visited it before. However, come once again, and on the table next to a sofa you will find the Fountain Pen which you need to get for the shotgun. 

Once you have collected all three items, you don’t even need to bring them to the room where the shotgun is placed. Collecting these three items automatically unlocks the shotgun case and the next time you visit the room, pick it up. Shotgun will be a great help during your exploration.

Soon after acquiring the shotgun, the room surrounding your protagonist will transform into a scary one with monsters spawning there. Use the shotgun and test its power. This is the best way to test this newly acquired weapon. 

Best Weapon to Find in Alone in the Dark?

Shotgun is not the only weapon to acquire in the game. The game has several melee weapons and other guns to get. Though none of them can get earlier in the game, eventually players will unlock them as they explore different parts of the story. Different weapons deal different damage to the enemies. Most interestingly, enemies behave predictably in the game, so, any weapon you choose can be effective in defeating them.

Still, if you are trying to figure out the best weapon, we recommend selecting the Tommy Gun. This is one of the most powerful weapons to find and players can get it quite early in the game, during Chapter 3. The gun is located in the Pregtz Shipping Company warehouse. To access the location, players need to make their way to the New Orleans Riverside.

Once you arrive at the riverside, you need to look for the Harbormaster’s Office which is hidden behind a maze of crates. Once there, jump down from the roof inside the office and pick up the key to make your way to the crane control panel. From there, you have to access the sewers by using the key to remove the pathblocks. 

Progress through the Sewers and eventually you will reach the warehouse. Find the stairs and climb them up to reach the office. Once you enter, you will see the Tommy Gun on the desk. Pick it up and it is ready to use. Fortunately, this gun will be immensely effective against late-game enemies like the Winged Sand Dweller and spider-like monsters. Even the final boss of the game Black Goat of the Woods can be easily taken down using the Tommy Gun.
