If you are a fan of Ubisoft games and also like to play first-person shooters, XDefiant should be your best choice. This latest first-person shooter game by Ubisoft has created a unique arena where players can find all their favorite characters from multiple franchises. That’s indeed exciting, but the catch here is that these characters need to be unlocked before players have them as allies.

These characters are divided into different factions, and currently, the game has five factions, each with three characters. Among these three characters, one is unlocked by default that players can select to start their journey. For the remaining characters from each faction, players need to meet the criteria and unlock them. Let’s not make it more confusing and check out the process to unlock characters in XDefiant.

How to Unlock All Faction Characters in XDefiant

If you have played FPS games like Call of Duty, you must have a clear conception of factions, but there’s a major difference between XDefiant and most other FPS games. Most of the factions are like cosmetics in these games, without much importance given to them. However, in XDefiant, factions play a key role as they come with their own unique abilities to boost offense, defense, or the supportive side of the characters.

At launch, the game has five factions named: Cleaners, Echelon, Libertad, Phantoms, and DedSec. Each has two characters to unlock, along with a default unlocked character. Players can form a team with one character from each faction. Therefore, having the best characters unlocked is necessary. So, in the next section, we are moving forward and discussing the importance of each faction and the unlocking process of the characters.

Unlocking Cleaners

Cleaners are the most impressive offensive characters in XDefiant.

The Cleaners are a group of characters whom players must have seen in another renowned Ubisoft series: Tom Clancy’s The Division. These characters come with their signature abilities of being exceptionally skilled in fire-based attacks. Giving them access to incendiary rounds, Molotov cocktails, incinerator drones, etc. will temporarily make parts of the map inaccessible to others.

This ability is especially useful while playing game modes like Domination, where the goal is to capture POIs in a certain amount of time. Characters you can get in this faction are:

  • De Rosa: available by default.
  • Kersey: requires 50 kills with the Firebomb ability to be unlocked.
  • Green: requires 50 kills with the Incinerator Drone.

Unlocking Echelon

As Splinter Cell fans, Echelon characters shouldn’t be missed in XDefiant.

This is again a faction that is made up of characters from another Tom Clancy series, Splinter Cell. Taking characters from a stealth series and putting them into a first-person shooter series seems unbelievable, but Ubisoft does this in XDefiant. Characters from the Echelon faction are spies who sneak around maps with their Digital Ghillie Suit.

That’s not all. There is more to know about this faction, as these characters have another suit called the Intel Suit. Equipping this suit will reveal the position of the enemy team to the teammates. This faction includes characters like:

  • Malee: Unlocked by default.
  • Samir: requires 100 kills using the Digital Ghillie Suit.
  • Rafa: requires 50 assists using Intel Suit.

Unlocking Libertad

These support role characters are great for healing teammates during matches.

This faction is a little different than others. Stepping outside the Tom Clancy series, the Libertad faction introduces characters from another widely popular Ubisoft series. In this faction, players will find all the rebel characters from Far Cry 6. These rebels don’t excel in offense. So, if you are looking for a supporting role where you have the chance to heal your teammates during fights, Libertad is the best to choose.

Well, there are a few troubles that players should overcome, and the first among them is that, occasionally, these supportive characters even heal nearby enemies. That’s tough to deal with. Another negative thing about these characters is that their abilities have long cooldown timers. Below are the characters to find in this faction:

  • Iselda: Unlocked by default
  • Beto: requires players to heal 5,000 damage to allies with BioVida Boost.
  • Seleste: requires players to heal 5,000 damage to allies with El Remedio.

Unlocking Phantoms

Phantoms are one of the best factions to play in XDefiant.

Again, Ubisoft has returned to its most popular series, Tom Clancy, while choosing characters for Phantoms in XDefiant. If you have played Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series by Ubisoft, the characters of this faction will seem familiar to you. These are tank characters to boost the offense of the team.

Phantoms come with a higher health pool than other factions. So enemies will struggle to deal damage to them. Additionally, they are specialized in defense. They can use portable shields to protect themselves and others anytime during combat. Characters that you can find in this faction include:

  • Singa: Unlocked by default.
  • Rhino: requires 25 kills with the Blitz Shield ability.
  • Gorgon: requires players to block 10,000 damage with the Mag Barrier ability.

Unlocking DedSec

faction character unlocks xdefiant
This is a special faction in the game with criteria to unlock it before accessing characters.

The final faction to discuss in the game is DedSec, which again takes a break from the Tom Clancy series. Characters in this faction are taken from a popular action-adventure series by Ubisoft named Watch Dogs. This is one of the best factions in the game, with some unique abilities to confuse enemy players. Characters in this faction use face-hugging Spiderbots to disrupt players. Aside from that, they can hijack opponents’ abilities and shut down their maps.

Well, there’s a twist. The DedSec faction is a little different than other factions. Unlike other factions, this one is not unlocked from the beginning. So, to access the characters of this faction, players need to meet the criteria and unlock the DedSec faction. To do this, all you need to do is complete a major challenge. Otherwise, you can purchase this faction with 1,000 XCoins

So, none of the characters in this faction are unlocked by default. Players need to unlock them all. Characters the DedSec faction offers are listed below:

  • Sebastian: wants players to reach 700,000 in-game XP to be unlocked.
  • Jing: wants players to reach 700,000 in-game XP to be unlocked.
  • Gia: wants players to reach 700,000 in-game XP to be unlocked.

These are the factions and processes to unlock all faction characters in XDefiant.
