So, the developers have included a special item for players: Beast- Repellant Torch. This item serves two purposes simultaneously. First, it will reduce the darkness and increase visibility so you can move at night, and second, it will scare wild animals so they will keep their distance from you. So, it will ensure your safety at night, to some extent.

Whenever you are trying to go on an expedition at night, you must carry a Beast-Repellant Torch. The effect of the torch will work on most animals, but a few exceptions are always there. Anyway, we will come to them later. First, let’s check how you can get the Beast-Repellant Torch.

Where to Get Beast-Repellent Torch in Elden Ring?

If you are looking for the torch, let me tell you, it can’t be found. Instead, you have to purchase it like tons of other equipment of the game. You will get it from the Isolated Merchant in Caelid, in exchange for 1200 Runes. As you progress, through Caelid, you will eventually reach Isolated Merchant’s Shack Site of Grace. Close to it, you will find the Isolated Merchant’s Shack. Enter the Shack and interact with the merchant to buy the torch. Now, if you are in the early stages of the game and haven’t yet found the Shack, this location has two ways to access it.

First, you can try using the easiest method to reach the location. To do that, you need to reach the First Step Site of Grace in Limgrave and start heading east from there. Travel some distance and you will reach Dragon-Burnt Ruins. Once you reach the ruins, go to the basement and you will see a chest there. Open the chest and it will teleport you to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. Now, exit the cave and make your way to the southwest side until you reach the Aeonia Swamp Shore Site of Grace. The journey hasn’t ended there. Now, the direction will change to the north and you will find a smoldering wall. Start following it towards the east and eventually, you will reach the Isolated Merchant’s Shack.

The second way is a bit lengthy and we don’t suggest players following this one to go to the Isolated Merchant. However, if you are looking for some adventure and challenging fights, you must go through it as it will take you to Strormveil Castle. However, to reach the Isolated Merchant’s Shack, you don’t need to enter the Castle, but have to take a right turn before you arrive at the castle gate. Next, all you need to locate the road going eastward and follow it until you reach the smoldering wall. On the other side, you will find the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace. Go there and start searching on the northeast side. The shack will be found on the top of a hill.

Once you encounter the NPC, make sure you deal carefully. Sometimes this NPC can be aggressive and start a fight. You can’t kill the merchant. Otherwise, you will lose the torch. He must be alive in order to sell you the torch. So, make sure you are not attacking him to make him aggressive during your interaction with the merchant.

The Beast-Repellent Torch is different from other torches because it burns incense that keeps the wild aggressive beasts away. Players only need to wield it and it will prevent if any beast is chasing. On that note, you should also know the limitations of this torch. It doesn’t work on all animals. Beast-repellent torch can prevent Wolves, Dogs, Caelid Dogs, Bears, Rats, Basilisks. If you wield the torch in front of these creatures they will keep their distance from you. But, the torch can’t prevent Runebears, Caelid Crows, Warhawks, and Bats. So, if you are attacked by any of these creatures, you have to fight for life.

Another limitation of this torch is that, it can prevent these animals until you attack them. If you attack a Wolf, or Caelid Dog, or Bear, it will no longer keep its distance. It will fight and you have to kill it to survive. So, if you want to pass these animals, hold the torch and walk past them without doing any harm to these animals.

Beast-Repellent Torch is a torch, but it is not like other torches in the game. It can be enchanted, or infused with Ashes of War. However, players can upgrade the torch using smithing stone. Also, players need 12 Strengths and 8 Dexterity to use this torch.
