Ghost of Tsushima has loads of enemy encounters prepared for players. Some of these enemies are mandatory world bosses to take down as part of Jin’s progress process; others are optional enemies whom players can easily ignore if they don’t want to fight them. Well, Tengu Demon is among these optional enemies, whom players will encounter if they participate in a specific mythic tale.

Ghost of Tsushima- Tengu Demon Location and Basic Information

Starting a fight without any prior knowledge of the enemy is not something wise. So, before Jin starts fighting Tengu Demon, it is better to gather some knowledge about the enemy, including his location. This mini-boss is part of the mythic tale named The Curse of Uchitsune. It is the third of the seven mythic tales of the game and also the final mythic tale of Act 1.

Mythic Tales are the primary sources for acquiring some of the most potent weapons in the game, and similarly, The Curse of Uchitsune will reward players with Uchitsune’s Longbow and explosive arrows. However, these will only be acquired after beating the Tengu Demon, who can be found at the end of the mythic tale.

Players don’t need to make extra efforts to find the boss. He will automatically appear when players pass the valley of blue flowers for the second time during the mission and reach the altar with a bow. Pick the bow up and the enemy will appear for the duel.

How to Defeat Tengu Demon in Ghost of Tsushima

Considering Tengu Demon as an optional enemy, don’t take him lightly. He is one of the strongest mini-bosses to deal with in the mythic tales. Most importantly, if you have been playing the game in hard mode, this boss is surely going to be a challenge for you. So, the first thing we suggest is to focus on your defense and learn the attacks of the boss without taking damage.

This crow-like enemy is a tough opponent with some deadly attacks in his stock. Therefore, the primary strategy is to use Perfect Dodge and Perfect Parry abilities to avoid his attacks. Both of these abilities are based on the right timing. If the timing is not perfect, the attack will land on Jin, dealing lots of damage. 

The boss is the king of crows, so he will occasionally summon hordes of crows to make the fight challenging. Apart from that, he has his sword, which is the primary weapon of the boss during the entire fight. Well, fortunately, he doesn’t have a range of attacks to launch. The boss mostly launches slash attacks with his sword. So, this fight is going to be a close-range fight where the boss will attack you when you stay near him. 

Most of Tengu Demon’s sword slashes are unblockable attacks that need to be dodged. Even the ones that players can parry will give them a short window to parry them. If you are facing the boss in easy difficulty, you will probably find the boss slow and not very aggressive, but if you are trying to fight him in medium or hard difficulty, the speed and aggressiveness of the boss will increase. When you face him with the highest difficulty, you’ll find him extremely aggressive, launching sword attacks back to back. 

In the hard difficulty, the boss will launch more unblockable attacks and start dodging attacks Jin initiates. So, dodging should be the most important strategy to avoid damage. The boss often changes his attack sequence in the hard mode to confuse players about the defense strategy. So, be more careful of his moves in hard mode.

Now that we have talked enough about the defense, it’s time to check the attacks to deal damage to the enemy. Once Jin parries a few attacks of the boss, he will get a small window to land some attacks on the boss. We recommend using heavy attacks to drain chunks of health from the enemy.

For the sword stances, we recommend using Stone Stance. Stone Stance is the most effective ability to fight a swordsman. It will help players stagger the enemy and land some critical hits on him. Additionally, you can try using the Wind Stance, but that won’t be very effective against the Tengu Demon. So, it is better to stick to the Stone Stance.

Also, during the fight, players often notice that the boss puts his sword inside the cover after a few back-to-back attacks. That’s your time to show him your skills. Don’t think twice and land a couple of heavy attacks to deal the maximum damage possible. In this fight, we recommend using Heavenly Strike as your primary attack strategy. 

Heavenly Strike should be acquired by defeating Yasuhira Koga during The Heavenly Strike mythic tale, which is part of the sixth main story mission, Hammer and Forge. The best part about this attack is that this is an unblockable attack. As the enemies can’t block it, this breaks the defense of the opponent easily and deals massive damage to them. A few Heavenly Strikes are enough to take down Tengu Demon, even in the hard mode.

Additionally, Heavenly Strike staggers enemies. So, if players combine this ability with the Gosaku Armor Set, they can even revive their health after killing a staggered enemy. Well, occasionally, Jin can use Sticky Bombs or Smoke Bombs, if the fight becomes tricky for him.
