Boss fights are generally the most exciting yet challenging parts of action role-playing games. Losing these fights ends the journey, but at the same time, winning these fights opens a new way to progress. In Hades 2, this system is the same. The more players progress through the Underworld and explore new biomes, the more they will encounter challenging bosses to defeat. Unfortunately, Shadow Spiller is among them.

Hades 2: Shadow Spiller Location and Fighting Preparation

Shadow Spiller may be a mini-boss in Hades 2, but it is not an optional enemy to fight. Instead, players will eventually encounter it in the game while exploring Erebus, the introductory biome of the Underworld. Once you start exploring the biome, players will soon find themselves in the woods of Erebus, where the Shadow Spiller lives. This fight is less complicated than the boss fights, but taking it lightly will make things dangerous. 

This boss will blur your vision as soon as the fight starts. So, going with prior preparation is required. The enemy has a few attacks to take you down; therefore, the best weapon we can suggest for this fight is the Sister Blades. However, don’t go for the basic one. Instead, unlock some upgrades for the better performance of the weapon. We recommend unlocking Skulking Slice and Final Slice.

Among these two upgrades, Skulking Slice gives attacks a 200% damage boost when you backstab them. In the next upgrade, Final Slice will deal 300% more damage when the final attack of your attack combo lands successfully in a large fighting arena. Aside from these upgrades, players should bring different Boons they have received from gods and goddesses. We recommend bringing Demeter Boons for freezing ability, Hestia Boons for your attacks to deal damage to the boss over time, and Aphrodite Boons to increase the damage rate when the enemy is close to you.

How to Defeat Shadow Spiller in Hades 2

As soon as you reach the boss arena, your vision will get shadowed, with only a central window to check the boss’s attacks and movements. This mini-boss is an armored enemy to fight, and unless you break his armor, your attacks won’t deal much damage to him. Before going further and discussing the attacks of the mini-boss, players should watch out for the two vine enemies who are hidden in the shadows. Their vine-crawling attacks come in a straight line towards players. 

These attacks won’t eliminate you instantly, but they can still deal significant damage and make you weaker for the mini-boss to eliminate you faster. So, the first thing players should do is defeat these two hidden enemies and then progress toward the main fight. To locate these two enemies, carefully look at the directions of the vines. The vines come in a straight line, so the enemy will be at the end of that direction. These two enemies are not challenging at all. You can easily take them down.

The real challenge will begin when the boss starts attacking players with his moves. Despite having only two moves, this enemy will take some time to be taken down. The first and primary attack of the enemy is a Tail Sweep. This is an AoE attack that affects a large arena.

In this attack, the boss sweeps his tail towards your location in an arc, dealing massive damage if you get caught inside its range. Fortunately, this attack comes with an indication. The boss turns white and suddenly twists its body before launching the attack.

This attack can’t be blocked or parried. So, the best method is to jump away whenever you see the boss showing these signs. The range is quite big, so jump back as much as possible. After dealing with this, the next attack the boss will come up with is the Tail Slam attack. In this attack again, the boss will slam his tail toward your location, creating a circular area of effect. However, this can easily be avoided if you stay away from the boss’ location.

This is not a surprise attack. The boss will start swinging his tail before launching the slam attack. So, players will get time to stay back from the range of the attack. Additionally, the attacks of the mini-boss are relatively slow. Therefore, if you see the indications in time, you can easily deal with them without getting damaged. Otherwise, these attacks can prove deadly if they hit.

Now that we have discussed all the attacks and how to avoid them, it is time to check out the strategies to deal damage to the boss. The strategy is pretty simple and predictable. All players need to do is be ready for counterattacks whenever they dodge an attack from the boss. The Shadow Spiller is not an aggressive boss, so there will be enough time to land some deadly attacks using your Sister Blades.

This strategy will be especially helpful once the enemy lands a slam attack. After this attack, he will become vulnerable for a few seconds, opening a window to deal massive damage. Another thing to do during the fight is to shift to the back side of the enemy. From time to time, use the Demeter Boon to freeze the enemy. Using this will stun him for a few seconds, allowing you to deal as much damage as possible.
