Hades 2 allows its protagonist Melinoë, daughter of Hades and sister to Zargeus to go after Chronos the Titan of Time with the full might of Olympus behind her. However, a dysfunctional family and pantheon of gods come with a lot of chaos.

Melinoë finds herself battling some stalwarts of Greek mythology as a result, relying on her fluid moves and clever tactics to gain an edge in battle. Her efforts are mostly helped by a combat system that is almost perfectly executed for a game that is still in early development!

These Sirens Know How to Party

Scylla brings a “hell” of a performance to Hades 2.

As Melinoë explores Oceanus, a vast area of the Underworld that shares a border with Poseidon’s domain, she comes across an odd trio. Standing between her and the Fields of Mourning are Scylla, Roxy, and Jetty.

While Scylla is a former nymph and current sea monster, Roxy and Jetty are Sirens. If you were expecting this fight to have a musical theme to it, you were right. It’s not just limited to the soundtrack though.

Scylla and the Sirens form a Misfit-inspired rock band with Scylla on vocals, Roxy on the drums, and Jetty shredding a guitar for some awe-inspiring attacks. It is a battle reminiscent of Nevan from Devil May Cry 3 except that Scylla brought the whole band along!

The Drummer really likes Boom Boom Pow.

Like any major battle in Hades 2, a healthy balance of offense and defense can go a long way. That is an especially sound strategy against a trio of deadly fighters out to get you in a three-versus-one boss fight. Scylla and the Sirens attack as one, with each of their chosen instruments acting as their main weapon. But they also take damage the same way, allowing you some options in the fight.

The entire fight is a performance, one in which Melinoë needs to find opportunities to shine. Paying attention to their attacks can allow you to find windows for retaliation, allowing you to chip away at each band member’s health until you can take them out of the equation entirely.

On a side note, we highly recommend using your best headphones for this fight. The sound design is spectacular, with individual instruments abruptly cutting out of the Sirens’ song as you take them out. Scylla’s voice even gets muffled when she retreats into her shell!

Stay on your toes and never in one place!

Roxy should be your first area of focus as her attacks can span the whole arena and seriously cramp your style. It can be hard to dodge her attacks with Scylla and Jetty out for blood. For instance, she creates a giant cast in which the only safe spot is right next to her. However, she follows that up with another one right next to her that deals a ton of damage, forcing you to move out of the way.

Fortunately, Roxy cannot haul her drums around the arena, making her largely stationary. Position yourself to dodge through her cast to create a window for a few quick attacks. Do not get to greedy as you have Scylla and Jetty to contend with as well. Patiently wear down her defenses until she is taken out of the fight.

Jetty is our next target, as her agility and range are a massive nuisance when Melinoë is trying to deal with Scylla’s stellar vocals. She has a large red cast along with projectile attacks that you must watch out for, along with a charge move that can change the course of the fight if you’re not careful. Time your dodges well to avoid her attacks and bring her down with the same strategy used for Roxy.

The band’s song is admittedly catchy.

It’s now time to take on the main act. With her supporting artists out of the way, it’s finally a fair fight between Scylla and Melinoë. Scylla is a class act, mixing the talents of her band into a deadly arsenal of attacks. For starters, her spike projectiles require a lot of skill at dodging. She also has a wailing attack in which she hits her high notes while following you around the arena.

Adding to her melee and ranged talents are casts like the four beams of light that can take a huge chunk out of Melinoë’s HP. She’s not afraid to bonk Melinoë on the head with her microphone in close quarters too. However, she is relatively slower compared to Jetty which she offsets by occasionally retreating into her shell where she is invulnerable. Quite introverted for an artist.

Another detail to look out for in this fight is a glowing musical sign on the floor that explodes on impact, dealing some damage to Melinoë. Any of the three fighters can lay it down and it can interrupt your rhythm and set you up for more damage.

With some patience and skill, Melinoë takes over the stage and the curtain falls on Scylla and the Sirens. She is rewarded with a Pearl for her efforts and is free to continue her adventure. For more help with Hades 2, our guides are all you need.
