Tips and Tricks to Defeat Jules Brunet in Rise of the Ronin

If you have reached this part of the game where you have encountered Jules, you have faced multiple bosses already. Those encounters are enough to reveal that Jules won’t be an easy enemy, like his predecessors. Therefore, your strategy should be defensive. If you focus more on attacking the enemy without understanding his moves, the fight will end with your elimination. So, take some time and notice the attacks of the enemy.

In this fight, Jules will appear as a Foreign Swordsman. Therefore, the main attacks he will launch are mostly sword-based. So, it is suggested to keep a safe distance from the boss. The fight will start inside a hall with almost zero hiding spots. So, if you are planning to hide and avoid attacks, that’s not going to work. 

Now, players may wonder why they should hide when parrying helps them more. Well, Jules comes with a Sword and a Shield. However, that’s not the problem. The catch is the shield that Jules carries has a unique counterspark ability which makes parrying more challenging. While most of his attacks are with a sword, a few Charged Attacks can be performed using his Shield. Most of these shield attacks are unblockable red attacks. Jules is not someone who can close the gap between you and him faster. Instead, if you go away from the boss, he will throw his shield towards you. If it hits, players will lose some health. So, try to parry the attack. Whether you parry or dodge, timing is vital. Even the slightest delay can drain a chunk of your health.

With the sword, the boss releases a series of attacks, and if players can block and parry them, the panic meter of the boss will fill up, making him vulnerable for a few seconds. This is your chance to land critical hits to deal as much damage as possible. As the fight progresses and the Foreign Swordsman has taken enough damage, he will initiate a new attack where he will make a long jump and slash from above. Again this is a red-glowing attack.
