PlayStation controversies seem to be a never-ending one, at least at this point. After Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima gets into the controversy, even before the PC version of the game is released. Ghost of Tsushima is undoubtedly one of the most popular PlayStation games that PS players have been enjoying since 2020. However, because of heavy demand, Sony has decided to bring it to the PC on May 16, 2024.

While everything has been going well and PC players have been eagerly waiting to experience ancient Japan with Jin Sakai, a Steam notification changed everything in a blink. Sony decided to do something surprising for the Steam players that caused anger among PC players amidst their excitement for the game.

Ghost of Tsushima Seems to Follow Helldivers 2 As Sony Wants a Mandatory Account Link For Both Games

Ghost of Tsushima is due to release on PC imminently.

Ghost of Tsushima is about to come within a few days on PC, and at this point, Sony has declared that PC players need to link their Steam account to PSN if they want to play Ghost of Tsushima on Steam. This resembles the announcement that they have made for Helldivers 2. Of course, there are a few differences between these two announcements. In the case of Ghost of Tsushima, the announcement came before the PC version officially launched.

That’s a minor difference. However, the major one is, as the Steam alert says, that only the online multiplayer version of the game requires a mandatory PSN account. This created confusion among players, but no official news was found anywhere. Neither Sony nor Ghost of Tsushima‘s official Twitter page or website has any updates on this topic.

Finally, the developers of the game, Sucker Punch Productions, came to the rescue. In the comment section of their Twitter post, they confirmed, “Just so you are aware, A PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the single-player game.

With this, the news gets confirmed. So, when the game comes on PC, if you use PlayStation overlay or play multiplayer, you need to link your Steam account with PSN. For single players, that’s not mandatory. This indeed caused resentment among the PC players, but not like it did when the Helldivers 2 announcement was released.

Helldivers 2 Community Experienced a Similar Incident A Few Hours Back, Causing Frustration Among PC Players

A few hours before the Ghost of Tsushima, another gaming community heard a similar announcement, and that’s also from the official Twitter page of the game. Yeah, we are talking about Helldivers 2. After two months of successful run, Sony suddenly changed the rules for Steam players, saying that the grace period is over and now they have to link their Steam to PSN if they want to start their Helldivers 2 journey or continue it.

Just like the Ghost of Tsushima, this linking process has been open since Helldivers 2 was launched. However, it was optional, and even without linking their accounts, Steam players have continued their journey on Super-Earth. But that has come to an end, and for the new players, this linking process will start on May 6, and the existing players need to complete this process by June 4.

The reason behind this decision, as stated in the notification, is to ensure the safety and security of players’ data and enable them to play fairly. As it reads, “This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.”

Though this announcement has caused a huge protest, Sony and Arrowhead haven’t yet replied to anything. Players asked for refunds and even refused to link their Steam accounts to PSN. This reaction came on a larger scale because this rule came after two months and not at the beginning of the game.

Comparing these two situations, it seems Ghost of Tsushima fans haven’t reacted like the Helldivers 2 community. That’s because single players can stay out of this issue for the former game. Anyway, in the end, this rule is a mandatory one for both games.
