Helldivers 2 Is Playing off Old Armor Sets as New With the Smallest Changes
New variations on existing armor sets may break player immersion on other titles. But Helldivers 2 begs to differ.
Helldivers 2 has dominated the third-person shooter genre ever since its release earlier this year. Giving its players tons of options in combat alongside explosive action and an interesting premise, Arrowhead’s follow-up to its original title captured the hearts and minds of players around the world.
However, it hasn’t been a smooth road to success for the game, with several issues causing players to complain about it online. However, Arrowhead managed to weather the storm, making sure that its work did the talking and strategically managing negative feedback to maintain engagement among its player base.
Helldivers 2 Sets a Benchmark for Innovation
Despite a few Helldivers 2 players recently complaining about the game feeling a little stale with a lack of new content, others have found creative ways to keep the fun alive alongside fresh strategies on using existing weapons and Stratagems on higher-difficulty missions.
And it seems that Arrowhead has taken a cue from its players with the recently released Independence Day update that brought new Super Destroyer upgrades along with a patch for issues that players were facing. However, one facet of the update seems to be drawing positive attention as the dust settles.
A Creative Approach to Content
It seems that Arrowhead has been inspired by how its players have managed to make the most out of existing weapons and Stratagems to come up with new ways to handle threats from the Terminids and Automatons.
A recent Reddit post showcases armor designs in the new update that are revamped versions of existing sets in the game, albeit with minor alterations that fit well with their names and suggested uses.
In what feels like a reference to the CW show Arrow, the Twigsnapper armor set’s repurposing for use in jungle environments has Helldivers 2 players marvelling at how Arrowhead has managed to use existing assets to save on production costs while giving its players content that feels fresh all the same. It’s an idea that has many fans of the game thrilled.
Many players don’t seem to mind that the studio is reusing assets to churn out new content, with the sentiment that placing reused assets in the right context earns some brownie points.
An exercise in subtlety has apparently worked in Arrowhead’s favor, as another player seems to think that the new armor simply works in ways they cannot explain.
Arrowhead is clearly hard at work to keep the fight for Democracy alive, and its players are all for it. It’s the perfect blend of a great game and player base that the industry could learn from!
