Helldivers 2 and a Surprising Second Title Were the Biggest Sales Successes of the First Half of 2024
Helldivers 2 has created a new record along with another game.
Helldivers 2 is undoubtedly doing a great job after it was officially released. It’s been almost six months since the game was released, and it has gone through a rocky surface throughout. However, despite loads of issues and even losing a substantial number of players, the game has maintained its quality to become one of the best-selling games of 2024, along with another title.
The gaming world is getting more competitive each day, with tons of new games joining the realm. Maintaining top positions even after too many issues is not something easy, and that’s what Helldivers 2 has done, along with another title that no one probably ever expected to be a best-selling title in 2024.
Besides Helldivers 2, the UK’s Best Selling Games List of H1 2024 Has One Game That No One Expected to See
Becoming a best-selling game requires games to meet a lot of criteria; otherwise, players wouldn’t have purchased them.
However, surprising gamers, a recent report of the highest sold games in the UK during the first half of 2024 contains two lower-priced games: Helldivers 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
The British gaming market has not been going well recently, and surveys and data show that the market fell by 30 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year’s statistics. But there’s more to know, and precisely, the drop is only 3% when one considers the actual selling rate drop.

Christopher Dring expressed that this drop is due to low-priced games doing all the business. Well, this has a strong base. While in 2023, the best-selling game of the first half of the year was Hogwarts Legacy, which cost players 74.99 euros, this year, it has dropped to 39.99 euros (Helldivers 2) and 49.99 euros (The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered).
However, the list has several other renowned titles that have maintained their best-seller places this year, but the console sales themselves suffered a hard time in Europe during the first half of the year.
Console Market of Europe Is Getting Tougher With Time, as It Is Going Downward Based on Reports
Every year, Games Sales Data tracks the gaming market and releases a report based on what it has found. The recent GSD report has shown a disappointing image of the European gaming market when it comes to console sales. Based on the current report, 300,000 gaming consoles were sold across Europe in June, which shows a 24% drop in sales if one compares it to the sales of June 2023.

Now, if one comes to the downtrend for each console individually, the report says, the PlayStation 5 is still in a better state with a 16% drop. Among the other consoles, the Xbox Series S suffered a 37% drop, and the Nintendo Switch encountered a 32% drop.
The gaming console hardware market is not at all going well, as only 2.2 million units were sold in the last six months, which once again proves the 24% drop. According to the report and players, the primary reason behind this downtrend is the lack of major AAA titles. In the first six months of 2023, multiple AAA titles were launched, which boosted sales. In 2024, the gaming world lacks superhit AAA titles.
The reason can be anything, but the sales drop is something that needs to be controlled. All gaming platforms need to focus on bringing titles like Diablo IV, Hogwarts Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, etc., to boost sales.
However, to stay updated, don’t miss the hype that Space Marine 2 has created before its official launch.
