Gears of War: E-Day Has to Have 1 Ending, but It’d Require Ignoring the Lore
Gears of War: E-Day should get a different type of ending than its predecessors.
Gears of War: E-Day is one of the most anticipated games that players have been looking forward to playing. Since the trailer was released at the Xbox Games Showcase event in June 2024, it has created a stir among the players. Not only for the impressive trailer but also for the storyline, which will take players back in time.
The Coalition revealed nothing about the release date of the upcoming installment in the Gears of War series. Even so, it never really shared any details about the gameplay, storyline, or characterization. However, this doesn’t stop players from assuming what’s coming, especially the main antagonist and the ending of the game.
The Coalition Needs to Change the Storyline a Bit to Meet Fans’ Expectations About the Ending
Since the announcement and trailer for Gears of War: E-Day were released, players have been eagerly waiting to experience the in-game world before the Locusts attack. This story will take players back to the time when everything was normal and peaceful. However, the most speculated topics in the game are the main antagonist and the ending.
While most players expect to see some of the most powerful evils in this game, like RAAM, Jermad, or Karn, a Reddit post shared something very different. A few days ago, a user stated,
“The whole premise of this game is to reintroduce the Locust as this unknowable force. The humans of Sera know NOTHING of the Locust.”
According to him, introducing a “big bad” will make things complicated and less relevant, as the enemy type will serve the half-purpose of horrifying the civilians of Sera.

In that same post, he even shared his opinion on getting an intense and satisfactory ending like BioShock 2. He is not ready to shift attention to boss battles; instead,
“I think if there is to be a final battle, it’s a Corpser emerging with an entire battalion and fighting them until everyone is ushered away safely. We should be focused on how this attack affects our characters and humanity as a whole, not origin stories of big baddies.”
Other fans also accept this ending idea. Mostly, they are eager to reach such an unexpected climax.

The Gears of War series generally features powerful Locust warriors to fight, but the suggestion of removing a main antagonist seemed unique to players. Though this has never been shared before, it seems like players have wanted a different ending since the beginning.

In the comment section, another player completely agreed with the idea shared and wrote “evacuating civilians before the hammer falls on most human cities” will be a great ending.
Even some players opined that, aside from a boss fight, it would be great only to experience the horror of E-Day.
Well, what The Coalition is really preparing for fans is not yet sure.
