SUMMARY
  • The previous season of Fortnite saw its Island turned into an apocalyptic wasteland.
  • While this allowed Epic Games to introduce collaborations that matched this theme, the lack of one particular franchise has left its fans disappointed.
  • Fallout fans expected more from the season considering the franchise's presence in its trailer.

Fortnite has been a great release for developer Epic Games on account of its various game modes, including its popular Battle Royale multiplayer offering and Fortnite Island, in which players explore the game’s version of an open-world RPG with an overarching narrative and a host of activities for their created avatar to engage in.

While the Island has been a great way for Epic Games to bring in some very popular faces from the world of popular culture to Fortnite, some of these collaborations with popular franchises have been better received than others. The latest season of the game’s fifth chapter has a few players lamenting the lack of one popular franchise that gained a lot of popularity in 2024.

Fortnite’s Collaborations Bring Familiar Faces to the Game

Season 3 of Fortnite’s fifth chapter featured a compelling narrative and lots of new content.

With many heavy hitters getting a digital avatar in Fortnite, players have largely been thrilled to play as their favorite characters and stars in its various game modes. A great example of Epic Games’ ability to feel the pulse of its players is the recent addition of Karol G to Fortnite Festival, among others.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that every addition from popular entertainment has been a hit among Fortnite players, with some franchises’ absence disappointing their respective fans. The third season of the game’s fifth chapter has drawn the ire of more than a few fans of the aforementioned franchise who expected to see more of their favorite characters in a season that may have been the perfect fit for them.

Has Fortnite Missed the Mark With Its Fallout Collaborations?

A distinct lack of content from Fallout has not gone unnoticed by Fortnite players.

With Chapter 5 Season 3 seeing the Island being transformed into a wasteland after the previous season’s events involving Zeus and Pandora’s Box, many players expected to see more than a few collaborations with Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout franchise, which has seen a spike in its popularity on account of an excellent adaptation of the franchise on Prime.

However, that has not been the case with the season’s focus on Magneto and the X-Men, alongside additions from Mad Max that have been well-received even as a few players took to Reddit to lament the lack of content from Fallout.

One player drew attention to the recent addition of content from the popular Disney franchise Pirates of the Caribbean as an example of how Epic Games could have made the most out of Fallout’s resurgence in popularity among its fans.

Other players drew attention to a recent collaboration between Fallout and Call of Duty that may have potentially nudged Epic Games in another direction with its latest round of collaborations.

Some players even pointed out that the season’s trailer included content from Fallout and a popular Marvel character which somehow never materialized in the game.

While Epic Games may very well include more content from Fallout in subsequent seasons, it does seem like a missed opportunity to not include content from a post-apocalyptic franchise in a season that literally featured an apocalyptic event.

However, Fortnite is certain to bounce back as it always does, with Epic Games being quite astute at managing its players’ expectations and creating content that they simply cannot stay away from.
