Fortnite’s Fallout Collab Falls Flat Days After Call of Duty’s Gets all the Praise
There's a lot of other stuff from Vault-Tec that could have made it to Fornite. For now, it looks like the Vault Boy Bobblehead will have to do.
Fortnite finds itself in the spotlight once again. And unlike their inclusion of the Operator Skins from their Call of Duty collaboration, fans of the popular gaming platform are not too thrilled this time around.
The new collaboration in question comes from Epic Games’ choice to include a reference to the recently released Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime – which is based on the popular video game franchise.
When Easter Eggs Do Not Click With Players
While Fortnite’s many references and inclusions from the real world have generally been well-received, there are instances where the platform’s inclusion of people from the real world or references to other popular media do not achieve the same results. Fallout fans who play Fortnite were excited for the upcoming collaboration between the two giants but things have not gone the way Epic Games intended.
The inclusion of a Vault Boy Bobblehead as an accessory for players to equip has clearly fallen into the latter category, prompting scathing responses from Fortnite fans on Reddit.
Fallout’s Addition to Fortnite Falls Flat
In a post on Reddit, Fortnite player Fickle_Ad335 showcases the newly added Back Bling accessory from Fallout, which features the iconic Vault Boy logo as a bobblehead that players can choose to buy with V-Bucks, the platform’s virtual currency.
As a part of the platform’s Gaming Legends collection, the Vault Boy Bobblehead is priced at 600 V-Bucks. Fickle_Ad335’s post is quite critical of this addition, with many other players chiming in to express their disappointment. The post in its entirety is below:
While Epic Games may have expected a positive reaction to Vault Boy’s addition to its collection of accessories, it seems that its lack of functionality and high price have rubbed fans the wrong way.
When compared to their collaboration with Call of Duty, which saw entire skins referencing the Operators from the game being added for fans to pick up, it looks like Epic Games’ attempt to bring Fallout into the Fortnite fold could have used a little more thought.
Instead, it has only served to remind players of other collaborations that did not work for them, with many referencing in-game items connected to films like Wreck-It Ralph.
Considering the immense popularity of the Fallout games and the TV show, perhaps Epic Games could have released skins for its players just like it did with Call of Duty, another franchise that enjoys similar levels of popularity – and the positive response that it managed to garner on account of it.
It looks like Epic Games has some work to do if it aims to make a collaboration with Fallout click with fans of the popular franchise. Fortunately, its Call of Duty skins are proof enough that it has what it takes to make that happen.
