Bethesda is renowned for its several renowned works in the gaming world, but the one series that has taken them to the peak of popularity and which has become another name for Bethesda is Fallout. Though this series wasn’t initiated by Bethesda Game Studios, this developer company has taken over the franchise and made it what it is today. Back-to-back hit games mark Fallout’s journey since 2004.

The Fallout series has raised loads of curiosity among fans throughout the years, especially about Fallout 3, because it took a decade to come after Fallout 2 was released. However, no one ever took the initiative to talk about this. Breaking the long silence, Tim Cain has recently talked about secrets that resolved many queries from fans.

A surprising secret is finally revealed about Fallout 3‘s release and the reason behind its delay.

Hardcore Fallout fans can’t forget how integrally Tim Cain was attached to the first two blockbuster Fallout games by Interplay Entertainment and Black Isle Studios. These were the games that defined his career, and after these long years, on his YouTube channel, while praising a video of Project Van Buren, he revealed some secrets, including his contribution to the cancellation of the game.

Reportedly, Project Van Bruen was the codename for the game that Black Isle Studios was working on in the early 2000s, and it was initially decided to be the original Fallout 3. However, this project was canceled. Though Cain had already left Black Isle by that time for his Troika Games, he played a significant part in the cancellation of this game.

He revealed that he got a call from an unnamed Interplay vice president who asked him to play the prototype, as the vice president didn’t think “they can get it done.” Despite his fellows forbidding him from getting involved in this matter, he played the prototype, and finally, his verdict was the same.

About the failure of Van Bruen, he mentioned, none can be pointed out specifically; instead, the financial crisis of the studio should be blamed. According to him,

none of those people are really to blame. I do not believe that the money they had left, the game in the state it was in, the people who were working on it could have completed it within six months. And, I don’t think it would have been a game you would have liked playing.

This incident happened only a few years before Bethesda took over the franchise and pushed it to a new height, where the Fallout games are currently standing.

Bethesda has Marked a new beginning for the Fallout franchise after Interplay Production almost collapsed due to the financial crisis.

The Fallout series was not the brainchild of developer teams from Bethesda Game Studios. They got this series from Interplay Entertainment initially in 2004, after this Van Bruen mess-up happened. The incident we described in the previous section happened in 2002–2003. However, that’s not when they purchased the series completely.

After 18 months of work resulted in a brutal cancellation, in 2004, Interplay Productions issued a license to allow Bethesda Softwork to develop Fallout 3, which players received within a year. Undoubtedly, it was one of the most remarkable titles of the series. After that, in 2007, Bethesda officially acquired the Fallout franchise from Interplay Productions.

The development speed of the games got a new pace when Fallout: New Vegas was announced in April 2009, and we received the game in October 2010. Similarly, Fallout 4 was announced in June 2015 and released in November 2015. However, after Fallout 76 was released in 2018, fans are currently waiting for Fallout 5 to be released.

That’s how the Fallout series has made its place in the gaming world over the years. However, while waiting for the next main installment of the series, players can check out top horrific and inhumane vault experiences the Fallout series has provided players with over the years.
